  1. Months later from my last post, Apple has become the first to roll out the now officially launched 'Matter' with its iOS 16, watchOS 16, tvOS 16, HomePodOS 16, macOS 13. While it may not be the full 'Matter' yet as Apple did announce a new update coming up (think it will be with iOS/tvOS/HomePodOS 16.2 and its equivalent for other OS platforms) that will spot a new architecture for its HomeKit. Since a large part of my home automation has progressively migrated onto 'Thread'+'HomeKit' based over last 2+ years, I believe 'Thread' is becoming a very solid foundation which Matter framework sits on top of. Even some Zigbee-based device makers are now announcing new 2023 Matter-certified products to be based on 'Thread' instead of 'Zigbee'. During this period of running Thread-based HK, it has demonstrated how IPv6-based, low latency and rapid self-healing mesh-network can be. Thread+Matter = most promising (in the perspective of native) as it does not require different bridging hubs (e.g. Hue Hub, Ikea Hub, etc). Since xOS 16 which brought Matter support, the entire 'Thread'-based automation have seen response matching Z-wave HA that I used to have (ditched when HC2 died and Fibaro distributor said back then no way to migrate HC3 seamlessly even using the cloud backup or usb-thumbdrive backup. Had to go through entire process of reset all Z-Wave module to re-include, re-add back all the scenes, scripts, virtual device, etc). Best of all, every firmware updating has been a breeze, no more stress of home automation breaking apart (like how it used to with HC2). Excited to have progressive firmware releases from various major players such as Eve (in Dec), Signify (Hue, developer release available, public release delayed but tentatively Q1Y2023), etc to bring their products onto 'Matter'. Come December 2022, when Apple releases the new architecture of HomeKit, shall see if there is new improvement on the 'Shortcuts' automation that further enhance scripting and speed of processing complex 'Shortcuts'. Just sharing how Thread and now Matter is turning out to be for me. 🙂
  2. Matter, though delayed by COVID-19, seems to be going full steam later this year 2022...once Apple releases iOS/iPadOS/macOS/HomePodOS 16... ~130 products been committed by major players (listed in Apple WWDC Keynote, below). It seems major Z-Wave players are not listed hence not optimistic on early adoption or some kind of hybrid support. Early experience with 'Thread' has been pretty nice so far, more responsive than native HomeKit or ZigBee. Looking forward to Matter.....
  3. HC2 on 4.560 was stuck in endless 'Starting Services' state after a power trip. Action taken are: Tried power cycle repeatedly and still stuck in this state. Enter Recovery Mode and select to repair system with latest software. Successful but upon power up, still stuck in the same state. What other actions can be use to recover the system?
  4. Oh...Silicon Labs owns Z-Wave IPs now? If so, as they are also part of this 'Connected Home IP' consortium, then you are right where likelihood the 3 largest automation platforms converging into one interoperable platform. Cool...
  5. Amazon, Apple, Google, Zigbee Alliance and board members (such as IKEA, Legrand, NXP Semiconductors, Resideo, Samsung SmartThings, Schneider Electric, Signify (formerly Philips Lighting), Silicon Labs, Somfy, and Wulian) form working group to develop open standard for smart home devices. The industry working group will take an open-source approach for the development and implementation of a new, unified connectivity protocol. The project intends to use contributions from market-tested smart home technologies from Amazon, Apple, Google, Zigbee Alliance, and others. The decision to leverage these technologies is expected to accelerate the development of the protocol, and deliver benefits to manufacturers and consumers faster. 6. I know having iOS devices (iPhone, iPad) nearby actually extends the range too. It's like somehow the iOS devices acts like mesh/extender. But this is not always a possible solution.
  7. Just got an alert yesterday on new update available in Home app but yet using Fibaro for HomeKit app, it doesn't show any update available. Is there supposed to be one or just false alert on Home app?
  8. Look for HomeKit Range Extender. I think Eve released one or announced one coming soon. Not sure if it is compatible with non-Eve HomeKit accessories or not. There may be chipset dependency (i.e. bluetooth 5.x onwards since bluetooth meshing specifications only added in 5.x onwards).
  9. As Aeotec Siren 6 is still not recognise with device template in Home Center 2 running 4.550, manual configuration of parameters is required. However, as most of the configuration are 4-bytes and some requires alphabet as value, home center 2 software only allows numeric inputs. Example: Parameter 16 is default to 0x4B191403. Do I enter the value in HC2 as '4B191403'? Or do I convert 0x4B191403 from hex to decimal which is 1259934723 and enter this for parameter 16? Reference: Engineering Specifications
  10. Fibaro HomeKit CO Sensor has no WiFi. It works on BLE only. Bring it closer to where your HomeKit Hub is located. See if problem persists. If it does not, that means where it was located is too far (since BLE does not have as far a range as WiFi). There is now at least one HomeKit Range Extender in the market (I think it is by Eve or one of those major HomeKit device makers) if extending the HomeKit range is needed.
  11. The 'Fibaro HomeKit Single Switch' is pure/native HomeKit devices. It does not work with Alexa or Google Home Assistant directly by itself. You may need some form of bridging hub (e.g. Home Bridge) which can bridge HomeKit to Alexa and/or Google Home. Philips Hue product line is different. Those are actually ZigBee devices and the Philips Hue Hub is actually the bridging hub that bridge between ZigBee to HomeKit.

    Forum under attack

Been awhile. I saw on one night where the forum was flooded with marketing spam all over the place. Hope Fibaro also spend some effort to ensure the forum database and forum engine are always patched to the latest. Otherwise, they are putting us all at risk of identity or credential theft.
  13. Interesting...I am seeing 1901181309 on iOS 12.3 with Hue app. I am located in Asia. @Sankotronic I do know that Philips do not always release the same version to all regions/countries concurrently. I have witnessed slower (delayed) release for where I am while others already gotten newer version (compared in other forums or was it Hue's forum, cannot remember since I am not too active over there).
  14. @10der I am seeing this in console. Include the page that's stuck on 'loading.....' Found the cause and fixed it. For unknown reason, after clicking synchronise in the Access Control page, there is now 2 accounts with exact same credential/username (one is Super User account, one appears added out of nowhere - perhaps the Fibaro ID).
  15. Thanks Peter. I will check your script out later tonight.
