A few questions about cameras and HC2

MartynH

Question

Hey,

I've had the HC2 for a while now and getting on with it pretty well (although would love to have global functions in Lua!).  I've just started thinking about adding a few cameras to my system and wanted to get a bit of a heads up as to what cameras (indoor and outdoor) work well and are worth the money (don't mind spending more for quality), also what functionality I can expect to get once the cameras are installed.

My friend has a online camera which alerts him when there's movement and records until the movement stops and he can also see a live stream - can the HC2 do all of this?  Is there anything online in regards to camera functionality and how to code around it in Lua?

Thank you,

Martyn

hello

for sure it should have capabilities of mjpg streaming , and about compatible most of cameras you can see on plugins page on HC2 , but of course you can add any of ip camera by adding by ip address, in section "Add device", and providing paths to mjpg, jpg etc. some manuals

I have one camera which I can watch online by ID fibaro all the time and it alerting me and sending picture on mail when door sensor is breached

If you want to save money, usable is also camera that support jpg stream. Instead of video you will get 1sec frames. For some applications it can be usefull. You can buy such a camera on ebay for 20-30€.

  • OK cool - something which supports mjpg streaming is a good think to know - are there any other specs I should know of?  For example, I see on the generic camera page there's urls for things like panning the camera - is there a standard for this I can check against?  I guess what I'm looking for is a way to check if a camera will work before I buy it.

Also whilst I'm here - what's the deal with the plugins for cameras?  Do they offer additional functionality over just supplying urls for things?

I'm not so worried about cost - like I said, I'd be happy to spend more money on something which I know works well.  With that in mind, can anyone recommend a good IP camera for indoors?

Look at this eshop. Those cameras are compatible with fibaro

PTZ - if you are able to control over http commands, than its possible via fibaro as well. Need to look on specific camera parameters and detail provided by vendor.
