Venetian Blind Motor UK
krisstoff posted a topic in Home AutomationHello, Im looking for some help in finding a suitable motor for my Venetian Blinds, I have 2 windows in each room which are around a meter wide, i'm going to need to invest in 10 motors. I am just wondering what other people in the UK are using. I have seen a few links for Chinese websites, most of which don't have prices on them and then don't respond to e-mails. I know a lot of people are using Somfy, but the cost is so high, ideally i don't want this project to start running into thousands. Has anyone got any suggestions? what motors are you using? what did you pay? are you happy with them? Thanks in advance guys.
Foxx @ Maplin UK - Cheap!
krisstoff posted a topic in Home AutomationHi Everyone, browsing earlier on I noticed that Maplin UK have started selling z-wave products. There are only selling a handful but I was impressed with the price of them. I came on here earlier and did a search for the Foxx water sensor and couldn't find anything. so I thought with them being on offer for £9.99 I would go and get one and see if it works. When I got into the store for some reason they aren't on the shelves so I had to get a member of staff to go and dig one out of the back. It has just paired with my HC2 without a problem, it recognises the device as a motion sensor, but once the drop down box was changed to flood sensor it works a dream. There are no parameters listed (the manual does not list any either) so I am assuming there is nothing that can be changed. This could be a turning point, as I have never been able to walk into a shop in the UK and pick up a Z-wave device - hopefully more will be coming soon!
Complete Fibaro Home start up - HELP
tajinder97uk posted a topic in Home AutomationHi everyone, Firstly, I apologise for asking questions that I am sure everyone has asked. In a nutshell I have bitten on more than I can chew on a massive home renovation and want to install Fibaro however am going to have to do this myself. I have some knowledge of how this all works but need a ton of guidance. I am based in London and below is what I was hoping to do and if I can get advice on what products to look into etc that would set me on the right way… and please assume you are talking to an idiot and dumb everything down J Task 1 – Lighting From my understanding the Dimmer2 module will work up to 250w however I must have dimmable bulbs installed. However, for my hallway lighting which on each floor (ground, first floor and loft) I have a 3 way circuit to turn lights on and off, do I need to install a separate dimmer module to each of the circuits behind the switch (as I was planning on have a 3 way switch) OR do I have to install a relay switch to each of the circuits? Task 2 – Underfloor heating I will be installing water underfloor heating downstairs (5 zones off the same manifold) and then electric underfloor heating in the bathrooms upstairs and the loft. I really am confused on how I can integrate this into the system. What underfloor heating do I need? What valves do I hook up to the manifold…how can this control the temperature? How do I wire the thermostats for the electric UFH and how can temperature go up and down? Task 3 –Electric gate and intercom I am planning on having a gated front with an intercom. I want to be able to get notifications on my phone should someone press the buzzer so I can speak to them and let them in if needed remotely.. I also want thobes to open the gates when I press it. Is there a certain motor I should buy? Certain intercom system? Task 4 – Air con I want to either install or run all the pipework and fit the actual units at a later date (depending on how I am getting on with costs) so want to know what air con systems are fibaro compatible? I want the units in the ceiling with grills so everything is hidden. I understand that I could use modules (figuring out how to wire them is another story) however I want to go with the easiest and most straight forward options given it will be a self fit. Task 5 – radiators I want to be able to control the tempreture of certain radiators, can you confirm all I need is a danfoss radiator valve? Task 6 – front door lock I was locking at installing a front door lock that can be opening with a code and with your phone. Any specific locks that you would recommend? i want to be able to override it should it not work so that is important to me Task 7 – cinema room Basically I am going to have a cinema room in the loft. I will be installing sonos throughout the house and have over 10 zones. However, in my loft I want to be able to control the tv, set up lighting scenes for when I hit pause etc. I don’t see how just a relay switch can do this as I need to control the tv, sky etc. Can I please get information on this? I understand I am after a lot however I have tried doing a ton of research prior to taking up your time so really would appreciate the help on how I can do each of the above along with information on EXACTLY what I need given I am based in London etc. Thank you in advance. Kind regards, Taj
Help & Advice - Fibaro / Vera / etc!
SimonH posted a question in Other Devices / Third-party devicesHi there, I've been using Home Automation for a few years now; and I'm really looking for some advice. I've gone through X10 and HomeSeer (hard work to set up / maintain, UI stuck in the 80s) and currently own a Vera 3 with Z-Wave, Hue and Sonos plus a few other bits. Vera's UI is ugly and also rather slow. The final straw was a recent S/W upgrade that broke the integration with my Visonic PowerMax alarm panel. I am really considering a wholesale switch to Fibaro & HC2, but I've been browsing the forums for an age now and can't really get a sense of what's compatible with what. I would like to switch to HC2. 1) With a UPS, can it reasonably be used as a standalone alarm panel, that you can arm/disarm from the web or phone UI, using only Z-Wave sensors? I could then buy a load of matched Fibaro sensors, which seems like the best / most compatible solution? 2) If a physical alarm panel would be better, which ones are recommended by the community that use wireless sensors, where the sensors are also available to HC2 to use as scene triggers etc.? The main constraint is that any solution needs to be available for sale in the UK and work on European frequencies. The alarm integration should also ideally be officially / natively supported. I'd like to control InfraRed devices in a couple of rooms - not sure what to use to send the IR commands? Needs to be a wireless IP device. Currently use iTach Flex and Roomie. I would also like it to work as easily as possible with Philips Hue, Sonos and Foscam FI9826W IP Cameras. Purchase timeframe is within the next couple of weeks. I have scoured all the forums for a simple list of devices, panels etc. that are fully compatible with HC2 but no luck. Hopefully one of you experts will be kind enough to offer some thoughts - many thanks!
