Remotec Z-Wave ZXT-120 IR Extender for Air Conditioners

mclass

Question

There have been repeated requests for HC2 support for this device, bugzilla posts and even a sample sent to Fibaro (thanks Johnny C in NZ).

Yes, you can use other IR devices (eg iTach) to learn and transmit IR codes, but the Remotec is pre-programmed with many popular A/C units and is battery powered. Simply installed with no wiring! Have been using these with Vera to great success for a year or so now.

+1 if you want HC2 support now!

Hi guys,

I am using Remotec to control my Daikin split system and it work fine with the code 6 in parameter 27. The only thing i do not like is that the temperature is measured with the Global polling interval set in the Configuration of the Home Center 2 or you can speify a different one, but when that happens, it does work,  but it seems like that the Remotec goes crazy and some of the settings (in the window where you can set the temperature you want and under it you can choose from heating, cooling and auto changeover) starts to change rapidly.... I tried with changing the settings for the polling time inverval of the device by specifying 10 secconds just to test... the same situation... As far as i can remember, remotec does that even connected with Zipabox from Zipato. Each time the temperature was refreshed by the device and send to the controller it sends the code/string to the AC unit - again and again..... And if that is in 10 sec. intervals as we tested it gets a little annoying.... Any idea why is this happening?

That is why i have removed the device from polling and after that i ckecked the HIDE button on the temperature window of the device since i am not going to use it.... So now i have only 3 windows, but not sure why in 2 of them i have an OFF function?!?!? In the first window, from where you can choose the mode, the OFF button shuts down the AC unit, but in the seccond window, where you can choose the FAN SPEED, the OFF does nothing, then why is it there?

And another problem, how we can stop the swing function? In the Zipabox you can, but here it does not appear?

Oerall, Remotec is now used as an IR blaster and thats it... Cheaper then Global cache i tach flex and can work on batteries

There is a parameter to hard-code the auto-swing to be enabled or disabled. There is no controllable option to manually swing it.

One thing I noticed is that every change of parameter, it needs a soft-reconfiguration to be perform for it to work/behave correctly.

Interesting...where to find the option to use global polling or a custom polling? I cannot find it in any of the child/slave devices for this ZXT-120.

chaicka please explane what to do and where: "There is a parameter to hard-code the auto-swing to be enabled or disabled. "

About the polling time, when you click on the wrench on each of the 4 devices, then advanced and under the section advanced (beneath the pictire of device itself) you will see polling time interval. There are three options :

1. Device excluded from polling; 2. Device uses global polling and the 3rd one is Device will be polled at periodic intervals and you can specify that. I hope it helps.

For the auto-swing, I get this under 'Advanced' tab:

Weird... I checked all the slave devices, Advanced tab, no 'polling time interval' option.

There should not be any, this is a FLIRS device so we do not poll it.

Thanks. Glad to know at least mine is correctly included as designed.

@New Age Systems: Is your ZXT-120 running on batteries or adapter-powered?

It is powered by 5v adapter, but in my HC2 there is no such parameter! In fact there are no parameters at all

Am i doing something wrong? I am using the latest firmware version.....

The polling options I do not have is simply because of the mode that your ZXT-120 is operating in is different from mine (battery-operated means FLIRS mode). Check out the ZXT-120 manual on the two modes available - 1 for battery-operated, 1 for adapter-powered.

I have tested both modes before (stated in my signature) and if you re-include it, the device template for it should shows up.

Hi.

I have missed this, sorry.

I have found one ZXT-120 which has the same version as yours and I have checked how it reports temperature.

The first thing, it can report only integer values (this precision can't be changed). Also due the lack of Association Command Class it does not report temperature automatically (or it does it mysterious way not compliant to Z-Wave standard). We are polling temperature from the device, you can force it by pressing button on the device but if temperature has not changed more than 1*C it will stay the same in the interface.

To check if your ZXT-120 working as supposed you can hold a finger on a probe (small, blue - on the side of device) for a minute or two and then click a button - new temperature will be acquired from ZXT-120 during polling.

As this is a flirs device we normally aren't supposed to poll it automatically - but if this will be necessary and device are not sending any reports automatically we will consider adding this feature to flirs devices.

Hi Roszak,

As this device can be either battery-operated (which means FLiRS mode) or 5Vdc adapter-powered (Always Listening mode), is there any way for HC2 to determine the mode it operates in and have different template for it?

Template for Battery-operated ('FLiRS') Mode:

  • No Polling Interval options
  • No Temperature Polling

Template for 5Vdc Adapter-powered ('Always Listening') Mode:

  • Polling Interval options
  • Automatic Temperature Polling based on the Polling Interval options' settings

chaicka it seems that is the case... two different modes depending on the power source

/emoticons/default_biggrin.png" alt=":D" srcset="https://forum.fibaro.com/uploads/emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> Idiotic enought i should say.... I prefer it when it is powered from the power adapter and i use it as the way i described earlier.

chaicka, I think that device always act and introduces itself as FLiRS regardless of power source - I will confirm that

Pardon if I am stating the obvious. In the user manual of this device, there is some steps to switch the device between 'FLiRS' or 'Always Listen' mode prior to inclusion to HC2 (or any z-wave controller).

Will be great if you can confirm that HC2 is able to see the different mode during inclusion.

I suspect this is what happens/difference between 'New Age Systems' and mine. HC2 sees mine as 'FLiRS' mode during inclusion and apply the device template for it, hence I get the device configurable options nicely presented. HC2 sees 'New Age Systems's' as 'Always Listening' mode and unable to apply a device template for it, hence he is getting no template with configurable options and because it is not recognise as battery-operated device, HC2 gives the device polling options to configure.

Can you tell me how to change the two modes, because i can not find the manual.... So you are saying that it is better to be in FLIRS mode in order to use the fibaro's template but can it be set to FLIRS mode and use the 5vdc power supply at the same time? I thought the device can figure out is it using batteries or a power adapter and to configure itself to the specific mode and then send the info to the controller..... I thought this is the way it works...

You are right, device can change the mode. And...

I Have checked on few versions, device works as supposed in both modes. Template is always used in FLIRS and Always Listening mode.

New Age Systems, please reconfigure the device - template should be loaded without a problem in both modes.

If this won't work please share with me your device version and I will check it out.

Not sure if I understand correctly.

In 'Always Listening' mode, there is supposed to be no polling options too?

In 'Always Listening' mode, the temperature sensor is also not supposed to be reporting temperature changes?

Is the 'polling options' supposed to appear only in 'Always Listening' mode?

Mine on FLiRS and I do not see any polling options available.

ZXT-120 has its own temperature sensor, but he always shows only same value, and it is does not change. ZXT-120 never sends the current temperature by changing it only if you press the button on the sensor, only at the time, data is transmitted. Each time pressing the button on the ZXT-120 that would see the real temperature is not very convenient.

As can be forced to poll the temperature sensor?

Which command?

Or how to set the polling interval of the sensor to continuously see the current temperature?
