Most camera's have email and ftp option build in. I have the email option of my front door camera enabled. So when someone shows up at my front door I get the images mailed. You can even record a movie to ftp.

I noticed in a previous configuration that when triggered by the doorbell via homecenter, or when someone enters the house (door/window sensor), the images are usually taken to late. When triggered by the camera's motion detector everyone gets a nice picture (or more) taken, even the mail(wo)man.
