FGD-212 Dimmer 2 behaviour

Hi all!

I`m considering buying the Fibaro Dimmer 2 or the Qubino Flush Dimmer for my new Fibaro setup. I will mostly dim incandescent bulbs, but also a few LED bulbs.

I would like to know if the Dimmer 2 give a short 100% flash when you turn the dimmer on with LED bulbs? I know it`s a quite new product but maybe someone have already got some experience with it?

Best regards

Odd Erling

It does not. Dimmer 2 is perfectly fit for use with LED bulbs, but non-dimmable ones (but some other kinds too) may require use of Bypass 2, that is not on the market yet, however should be released soon.

So when you dim dimmable LED bulbs using dimmable electronic transformer Dimmer 2 will be OK even without the bypass? Is that right Nowacki? We are planning to install some of them in the next few days and i hope they will work as they are supposed to work. I mean no flickers or flashes at startup and no problems with the electronic transformers.

Regards!

One more thing guys, is it OK to dim 42w LED bulbs with the Dimmer 2 without bypass? And if not, bypass 1 will work with Dimmer 2 or we have to wait for the baypass 2?

And another question, is it ok to dimm 2 electronic transformers with 1 dimmer no matter which one (dimmer 1 or 2)?

And third and last question guys, is it OK if we connect the switches of Dimmer 2 not from the SX to S1 and S2 but directly from L through the switch (momentory) and then to S1? IS it possible, because as you know most of the electrical circuits are made to cut the Line and it is not possible (or doable) to remake the circuit and "power" the sitch from the SX of the dimmer? What do you think? If the input of S1 and the output of SX are 220v from the same circuit i do not see a problem to connect the switch directly to S1 so it will input in S1 220v directly from the grid. What is your oppinion Nowacki?

Another question: Is it ok to use the new Fibaro dimmer 2 with LED bulbs and the old bypass (in case I am just to lazy to unscrew my light to remove the bypass)?

Old Bypass should not harm your instillation when used with Dimmer 2, however it also will not be beneficial in any way and we do not advise it. Dimmer 2 should be only used with Bypass 2.

You should not connect different types of load, also different electronic transformers may interfere with each other. Multiple identical transformers may be used unless they exceed maximum load capacity.

It is hard to determine if your 42W load will be fine without Bypass 2. From experience I would say it should be OK as long as 3-wire installation will be used, but can't tell for sure since I did not test this particular configuration and devices (it is below advised minimal load).

S1 and S2 should be wired up to Sx due to hardware protections that is implemented in device.

Thanks Nowacki,

The two electronic transformers are identical! So dimmer 2 will be OK with that :)

I thought the minimal load is 15W and not 50W or so? We have one circuit that is 35W and one 49W LED bulbs, so you think we will have a problem evn using Dimmer 2?

Basically advised load should exceed 50W value, but as I said 35W and 49W have big chance to be OK with 3 wire connection even without Bypass 2. BUT it is only an advice based on loads I used with this device and may not be valid for your load.

Thank you Nowacki! I hope it will work just fine!
