universal binary sensor inclusion to HC2 failing

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm hoping that somebody can help me.

HC2 - v 4.056. 40-50 devices, reasonably familiar with the system

I have been working with the universal binary sensor for a while now and have a few of them working with temp sensors and contact sensors. I upgraded to 4.056 when it was released and haven't touched that side since.

I bought some more UBS in the last few weeks to gather more temperature readings and to enable a more contact sensor and I've ran into an issue. When I add a new device it appears as a generic z wave device with no parameters and I can see from the inclusion process that its not going well. On inclusion I get one device that is not configured

When I include the device I get

[21:54:31] Device added
[21:54:43] Add node status protocol done
[21:54:43] Adding devices complete

The add device page stays open and I have to close ( I have left it for 10 mins at this stage)

The learn mode led on the HC2 blinks as it is being added.

The zwave led (fourth led) on the HC seems to be permanently blinking, maybe this has always been the same but I never noticed it before.

On inclusion the advanced tab shows.....

Device kind: Z-Wave device

Version:

Configuration: Not configured

ID: 93

Configuration

The device does not have a template by what might have limited functionality, please contact technical support in order to add the template for this device.

On excluding/deleting the device I get

[22:36:12] Home Center in learning mode
[22:36:18] Device was deleted succesfully
[22:36:18] ID 933: Deleting devices succesful
[22:36:19] Slave Device Detected
[22:36:19] ID 933: Controller was deleted succesfully
[22:36:19] Removing devices finished

I have read through the forum and tried all that I could find and a few more. Most of what's below I have tried several times at least but no luck

  • reset device hard reset and ffw reset (holding the button down for 10 seconds while powering off and on the device)
  • Tried different power supplies
  • soft reconfigure
  • tried a new UBS that was never added before as well as two that I had added successfully in the past.
  • rebooted the HC2
  • check the diagnostics panel for CPU, RAM, etc resources
  • excluded and included a good many times
  • tried the device with nothing connected to it, a contact sensor connected and a device with 4 temp sensors connected
  • moved the device to be within a foot of the HC2 during inclusion
  • tried network wide inclusion
  • I had added a SPC Gateway (great bit of kit from Goran) device to interface with my alarm and I removed this and disabled the scenes that were associated - a reboot of the HC2 did nothing
  • The only other big thing I did lately was to add VD for my 14 sonos zones (including all the variables) but I cant see how that would be impacting the device inclusion process

These devices used to add in a minute or less and I have left some of these for 10 mins and more,

The only thing I haven't tried is excluding one of my working ones and seeing if it will include again.

I might try that tomorrow night if I can get to when I installed it.

I don't want to upgrade to the latest beta as there seems to be some challenges and I have dimmers and switches buried in walls and I can have them go down on me at the moment.

Any and all suggestions and perspectives welcome...

hopefully somebody can help me solve this one

Thanks

-F

    Hi spazpeker,

Thanks for the reply...did you get a similar symptom to what I'm seeing ?

I'm on 4.056 and I thought that was an official release but after looking now it looks like it was a beta as well (??)

Do you recall which beta had the issue ?

How stable is that beta - I've read some other issues and dont want to solve this one and create a whole other set of issue

    Thx

  • curiosity got the better of me last night and I excluded one of my UBS that was working (with 3 temp probes) and when I tried to include it again it wouldn't work, same issue as the others

I'd blame it on a "beta issue" as was suggested but I haven't changed the version in a good while

I successfully added some UBS a few weeks ago on the same version that I am now getting the issue described above.

Could adding scenes and/or global variables for Sonos have created the issue - I don't logically see how but I'm by no means an expert

    any help appreciated....

I think that version had issues with adding UBS. If not the device by itself, then maybe it was UBS + DS18B20. I don't remember and I have to admit that sometimes I can't find stuff like this via "search".

    Thanks for the reply Peter,

I did try and include a UBS without any temp sensors and that seemed to have the same issue.

Do you know if I can reload the current version of the FW I am using and if so how ?

this might be helpful in case the FW libraries have been corrupted in the last short while ....

    Thx

4.063 has been stable for me, if you need the UBS i would install, if you don't then i would think we cant be that far off a non beta new release

    Thanks spazpeker

I would like the UBS to work as I am creating a temperature hub with 12 sensors so I can capture temp's across my house.

Upgrading to 4.063 is sounding like the best option..

Do you know if its possible to reload the FW I am currently running if I wanted to do that as an initial step

    That's good news

I had some that were working already and I still have one functioning at the moment. My main issue is that I can't include any new devices.

Could I ask if you added any new UBS modules since you upgraded to 4.063 /

  • the last one i added was prob in version 4.061 beta

    thanks

It sounds like this is the best option at this stage.

i think I'll kick it off remotely and check it when I get home if there is some tidy up needed

much appreciate you and other sharing you experience

  • i decided to upgrade to the latest Beta (4.063) and unfortunately  it didn't resolve the issue...

I didn't have many casualties from the upgrade in HC2 apart from some scenes but most of my imperihome app doesn't work now.

I assume I'll have to recreate

I'm going to try and include another device (fibaro relay) and see if that works

    open to other suggestions

Long story short - it looks like I have a bad scene or variable or both.

I did try another device as aome suggested and that wouldn't work either. I also noticed that the HC2 was very sluggish. It's strange as all the diagnostics ( ram, cpu, storage ) were in the green all through this.

I deleted some scenes that I had in development and disabled all the others and rebooted and hey presto everything worked. I re enabled some of my regular scenes and it all worked. I did think it was the SPC gateway I purchased but I added it back in later and all is still working so in a happy automator..

I did upgrade to the latest beta (4.063) in the afternoon and I don't seem to have any issues following that.

Thanks again for everybody's help and suggestions,
