Dimmer2 subtle flickering and unstable consumption

sjauquet

Question

Hello,

By chance I noticed recently that when there is a subtle flickering in the light for some seconds (3 to 10), there is also a variation of consumption in the power graph.

I also read somewhere that dimmer2 was also continuously changing the level of dimming.

Here are my graphs:for 4 days, you can clearly see that the consumption is gradualy increasing when the strip is dimmed for a long time (in the evening)

The load is a 220V led strip

  • yes, looks similar...

    I'm in belgium and I have 3 X 220V led strips.

Two are connected on two dimmer2 and the small flickerings occurs almost at the same (I'm on a 3 phase electric wiring)

One is connected to a wallplug and no flickering, ever.

It's probably due to ripple control.

I read that you are lab testing a solution, will this be a sofware or hardware solution ?

If i may suggest, try 2-wire connection with LED strip and make sure, that LEDs are dimmeable by Phase and not by current. Then connect Bypass 2 in parallel with the LED strips.

From my experiences, but with Phase dimmable power source: I had in office LED panel for testing. And i resolved flickering wiit by creating 2-wire connection instead of 3-wire and i connect bypass to transformer terminal. Flickering was visible only at 20% of light brightness. Up to 30% off brightness no lickering. :D

  • Hi, Jakub,

    thanks for your suggestion.

I use the dimmer 2 without S1 or s2 connected, only by association. If I use 3 wires type of wiring, the leds are still emitting light à 0%...

    A bypass 2 is connected.

With a qubino there is no flickering at all and they use the same diming method.

And what version of Dimmer 2 do you have?

I had some problem with version 3.2, where it was bad with flickering. Version 3.3 and 3.4 solved this problem and Dimming was even better. But i live in CZ and we have ripple control in electricity, so flickering is still presented in CZ with every Mosfet Dimmer.
