Dimmer cant switch off the light

Question

I am using fibaro dimmer and I connected two Flourascent lights with it of 13W. when I am switching off switch attached to it, it just dims the light and it cant switch the light off. Hope some one will help me

Have you got parameter 20 set to your correct switch type? It sounds like you have it set to momentary switches when you are using toggle switches

I have Philips "Warm Glow" LED on Dimmer 1. But... for some LED (like this one) you need Bypass 1 to stop it from glowing faintly in the "off" position. Dimmer 1 btw is not compatible with Dimmer 2. Actually, glowing leds with Dimmer 2 is also possible, and also solved with bypass, but "Bypass 2" that is...

 

If you have 2 or more LEDs then you can try this: replace one of the LED lamps with an incandescent type. Does that help?

I guess you're right ;-) 

 

I had 5 philips dimmable G4 leds, they stayed on with dimmer 1 (bypass would have solved that) but when I replaced the 1 with a dimmer 2 it all went fine.

    No problem! In any case, dimmer 2 is a better dimmer :-)

    Toggle switch is OK.

    Now you've lost me... I've never heard of incandescent lights 13 W... Or 6.5 W because 13 W = 6.5 W right? These are CFL (compact fluorescent) or LED, surely not halogen or (tungsten) incandescent?

     

    Can you please use more words to describe what you have connected to your dimmer when you started this thread? Or maybe a photo? And then, when I asked to replace one of the lamps, what did you do?

  • now My fibaro Home centre is having some problem, So i cant do as you asked me to do. I have already discussed about the issue my controller already with you. Its not yet working, and I am discussing that issue with the fibaro tech support right now.

    I see! OK, the extra information helped me to make sense of it all. Sorry about your HC issues...

     

    These three lamp types are prone to "glowing" or blinking, especially with a 2-wire setup (because more current flows through the lamp when it is "off"): CFL, fluorescent with electronic ballast (if the tube diameter is 16 mm the ballast is almost certainly electronic. Aka "T5") and LED (retrofit 230 V or 12 V with electronic transformer). Power supplies might "hick" causing light pulses instead of glow. If you have *enough* load, it's possible that the current stays below the level that activates the lamp. So that's why forum members like me refer to a table in the manual, which tells you that need at least 50 W of load if you don't have a bypass.

     

    The halogen and tungsten lamps do not glow, because although the filament heats up (it passes the same current as a CFL or LED), it's way too cold to produce visible light. The high efficiency of CFL and LED *does* output some light.

     

    The "Bypass" (type 1 or 2 depending on your dimmer) comes across the light, so "it bypasses the current, away from the light". You only need one per dimmer circuit, not per lamp. It is not a resistor, although you might think that. It's really a sort of switch, that shunts away the current if the dimming level is very low.
