Any experience with Z-Wave Greenwave 1 Port PowerNode

Question

Posted

Hi,

I'm looking for a basic wall plug with meter to track when an appliance is on. The accuracy of the power reading isnt important.

I came across the Z-Wave Greenwave 1 Port PowerNode at £20 which seems cheap

Please login or register to see this link.

The site says its reduced because its a first generation

Does anybody know how reliable these are with the HC2

Thanks

hi Frank,

i have to of those 6 port powernodes in use. It has almost the same "features" as the 1 port plug.

It's kind of a hate-love with those PowerNodes.

They have some annoyances that can be solved, others not.

Let me point out the pro's and con's:

+ switches up to 6 devices for a low price

+ switches reliable with HC2

+ working since over a year more or less flawless (I have one installed outside the house at a dry spot. -15°C didn't cause any issue)

- powering the plugs on at the device itself is not reported to the controller (status wrong)

- power measuring is not always reliable (but working good enough to poll the plug once the readings change to get the status right)

- 1 of the ports doesn't power of, not with the button and also not using a z-wave command

- blinking of status led when no communication for some minutes (could fix this only on 1 of both powernodes by setting parameter 1)

Would I buy it again? Definitely yes, there is no alternative product that offers 6 ports.

Would I buy the 1 port? No, definitely not. Take a fibaro wall plug.

best regards, kro

I have 2 one port greenwave powernodes and a lot 6 port ones.

I totally agree with Kroeatschge.

I've moved the 2 one port to positions out of sight.

The constant blinking is very annoying.

    @diedvdyk

I though I read somewhere for a solution to the blinking but for me they are fine as they are all out of sight monitoring appliances

I have 6 running now and we'll see how I get on

    Thanks everybody for the feedback

    @autofrank

I've tried several solutions for the blinking problem and nothing worked.

I've read that it only works for some firmware versions of the powernode.

For the powernodes 6 ducktape (several layers) is my solution.

Same experiences here, 6 powernodes6 devices working Ok! (Once a powernode6 let my complete zwave Network collapse, but after a power cycle it Works fine).

The powernode1 works but No power Reading is possible.  Fibaroplug is beter.

for the powernode6 indeed Some layers of ducktape works

What helped on 1 of my devices to stop the blinking is to set parameter 1 to 99.

At other places they report to set it to 255. But thats not possible as either the hc2 or the powernode does not accept a

bigger parameter size than "1d" which might be 2 digits only?

The other is still blinking like crazy. Got used to it and it's outside so manly my neighbours might see it ;)

i am trying to set the param 3 to 0 as i want the plug to remain off state when there is a power cut/restore.   However, i set it many time via HC2 i always got the message no reply for param 3. Any idea?

    hi @[email protected],

you can try syncing the device manually by pressing the network information frame button on the side of the device.

Please login or register to see this attachment.

When adding the parameter make sure you add it on the main device.

I wasn't able to add something bigger then datatye 1d, so try with 1d.

So... That's what they mean by "incremental design"?

hehe right, actually it didn't even make sense, but it worked. I have some of them and only one (with proper params set) was blinking as hell (all same fw version).
