I have seen some very cheap Z-wave devices at eBay...

Please see link below

Ia anyone has tried these no brand devices?

It looks like "original" copy of some famous smart home manufacturers .

Would like to hear your opinion on that..... thanks

I will never place my bet and faith in some China knock-offs (which cut corners here and there) and put the safety of family and myself in their hands.

  • You're  probably right, but from other hand there is no good reason for such a high prices for devices.

My idea is to try out these devices in places that don't require safety or security....

It might to reduce the overall prices on the market.

    @cag014

I'm with you on the cost...

Just found this from your link -

its a Aeon Labs Aeotec Z-Wave Micro Dimmer 2nd Edition - DSC27103-ZWUS for 30 dollars.

That's almost 50% of the cost of the Euro version ....

    what gives with that ?

  • Usually the prices in US are half of EU.... go figure out why?

The problem we cannot buy them, different frequencies... and in addition the shipping price from US to EU is high

True...reduce overall cost to operate/setup. Just be careful...I have a relay smoke out and melt without any heavy load (just Apple TV at around 3W).

I've seen the Neo Coolcam devices also on robbshop.nl,

maybe you want to buy the first batch there? Should make return process easier.

That dimmer uses a TRIAC and that means it's to be compared to "Dimmer 1" and not "Dimmer 2". It is old technology, well suited to control incandescent lamps. A TRIAC is a robust, proven electronic switch that only works on "Alternating Current" (hence its name) because once turned on, this device cannot be turned off. It conducts until current drops to zero. A TRIAC dimmer cannot have (effective) short circuit protect and only has limited overload protection (or possibly none). It does work with a *limited* set of LED and CFL, but some lamps really don't work well and can even cause excessive heating of the module. Dimmer 2 is based on MOSFET. Or small IGBT, I don't know, to be honest, I have not yet reverse engineered this dimmer :-). That is a more modern electronic switch, with the slight drawback that it has higher losses so maximum power is reduced from 500 to 250 VA. But this type of electronic switch enables leading and trailing edge control, overload and short circuit protection. It works with almost any kind of load. Quite a different beast...

I don't see a Z-Wave plus logo on the Aeon dimmer. And the Z-Wave Alliance database confirms this suspicion.

It says: "Z-Wave hardware platform: ZM3102" . That's commonly known as "Gen3" while Z-Wave Plus is often referred to as "Gen5" (recent Fibaro devices use a "ZM5101" chip).

I have great results with the Neo Coolcam Wallplug and motion detector but the duo switch gets warm and always removes from my HC2. Unfortunately, because I find him more beautiful than the Fibaro, he takes less space in the built-in box and is cheaper.

Has power consumption, but no template available.

    Door Sensor:

Works fine, but no template available.

    Doesn't work -

    PIR Motion Sensor IX30:

Successfully included , but no trigger received.

Thanks for reporting back. I'm tempted to buy one of these, to see what is inside... Does it look like they are easy to open?

I'm using Neo Coolcam Wall Plugs for about a half year with success. They already had the possibility to customize icons, long before Fibaro did that to their plugs.

At Aliexpres you can buy them for approx. half price of the "Originals", but they can have only 2000W of load.

    Hi @tinman,

And you ask that for what? Do you expect, as I do, that Chinese again produce devices that can be dangerous for users because they don't follow the safety rules and regulations for designing electrical appliances? Or you believe that it is a product of reverse engineering?
