My colleague showed me some great products (ZigBee ones into different system).

But nobody has such product in Z-Wave and it is looks great for overpriced ZigBee. As headline of this topic suggest it is Inline Dimmer.

And use case is simple.

Get lamps dimmable without adding Dimmer into wallplug. Dimmer in wallplug could cause issue if you connects there something non-dimmable so it has to recalibrate and during that process damage for example kettle or Notebook power supply. -> Secured dimming of the lamps.

Hi @jakub.jezek,

What we tend to do in this case, is to do a "fake"/external socket/outlet, with our dimmer inside, and on the one end you have a male plug to plug it in to your standard socket, and on the other end there is this female socket.

  • @I.Srodka, yes, that could be solution, but that sollution is not Fibaro sexy design -> elegant. Ugly installation box with 2 cables going from it.

Probably you're right, when it comes to the design.

But there would be just one cable (the box itself would have a socket) : -)

  • @I.Srodka, but still installaton boxes are ugly, because no body cares what is behind switch. I do not know any installation box that is nice and elegant.

And you simply cannot add installation box into nicely designed living room. Some customers are able to castrate for devices design.

I have one at home it works fine at 10% for night light in the main room lamp. Hidden behind the couch, it is also ugly, but very functional :)

    Cheers,

    al.

  • @alandee, thank you for reply.

Yes, it is functional, but ugly as you said.

I'm looking for some nicely designed inline dimmer, that would replace classic on/off switch on the lamp cable.

Today with MOSFET technology, I believe it is possible to develop such Dimmer.

Axxess did it in ZigBee. I believe that somebody (hopefully Fibaro one day) will make it in Z-Wave.

  • Hi @Tundel,

Thanks for your post. Yes, i'm pretty sure, that nobody makes such Dimmer :D.

I know about that Switch, but it is a switch only. It des not have Dimming capability.

    See for all tech specs:

yes, compatibility of Swiid Cord. on 4.100 firmware Fibaro HC2 or HCL

Ok, i think now it is "more" copatible. But still it has just On/Off feature (Switch Binary  command class). For dimming it has to have Switch Multilevel command class.
