restart after power failure

AutoFrank

Question

Hi @T.Konopka

You referenced the following in a closed post

Quote

Restart after power failure - connect the gateway to the monitor and keyboard. Go into BIOS with F2. Then: a. Power tab -> After Power Failure -> Power On -> Save and Exit -> Confirm

I was wondering if this is a fix for a hand after a power up or a different issue ?

Thanks

_af

This procedure was particularly suggested when users faced "all LEDs on" issue.

However, if a user sees that the gateway does not power up by itself after power outage (of course after the power was brought back) then a user should check this setting.

I have an issue if I plug my HC2 out and then plug back in again, it starts to power up and get stuck (all leds on)

I have to tap the power button to get it to start correctly

does this sound like the same issue ?

Hi, I have the exact same issue, my HC2 doesn't start after power failure, all led's are on except left one, it is blinking. I have to restart it with power button, other possibility works not.

I'd check with a monitor, maybe the system prompts to do something. Some motherboards say something like "memory change detected, press F1 to continue" after cold start. Just thinking out loud.

  • Hi @T.Konopka

I started to notice it after the upgrade to 4.140 and it happens all the time now

I'll check the BIOS setting and let you know if that improves things

    Thanks

Oops! Does it boot without recovery key? Some boot option in the menu? I can't remember, I haven't visited that menu in 5 years...

I didn't try that .. I don't want to mess with the BIOS too much

    Reboot didn't work

I think I'll see if recovery will work

    @petergebruers

Recovery not working either, I'll take another look at the bios settings in case I screwed something up there

I plugged back in the monitor and all looks good in the BIOS

This is where it would appear to be getting stuck...

Maybe the reboot issue wasn't the cause, but a symptom? Damaged filesystem? Did you notice "fsck" messages?

Login prompt, does not look too shabby...

I think... you should remove the extra memory. Maybe it has nothing to do with the issue, but I think that was an important change and it is better to go back one step...

  • It would appear to be stuck at the login prompt above

I also captured this which doesn't look good either

That fits "reboot issue was a symptom". Does this mobo have a lithium coin cell?

no sure, I can check some pics posted by some otehr users...

    update

I cant find the pictures :-(

The cmos battery might explain the restart issue but not sure why the linux layer isn't starting now and handing on a login

    found them

It looks its the standard 2032 but in a custom package (and not in the usual holders that can be replaced easily)

Looks like I'm going to need fibaro support in the morning..

I should have left it as it was .... :-(

Any chance that you can measure the battery voltage?

    Thanks @cag014, @petergebruers

I have a basic multi meter and may be able to measure off the connector but TBH I'm reluctant to take it apart in case I make it worse :-(

The system date and time seem correct ..

could a battery failure (even with correct date and time) be causing it to hang at the login

While i was booting at the start before I checked the power setting I hit the F2 a good many times (as I didn't realise F2 would appear in a menu, I though it was a break option) ,

perhaps I corrupted the start up process.. could this be possible ?
