Alexa and Fibaro at Fire HD 10

mdo

Question

Hello!

I have the following setup:

-Fire HD 10 (5.6.0.0)

-HC2 (4.140)

-Many Fibaro actors (switches, dimmer, rollershutter, etc...)

I activated fibaro alexa skill and paired it with my fibaro id. This was successful.

But if I start to search for devices inside the alexa app, there occurs an error... So, I cant search for the devices...

Is there any solution for this problem? Please don't tell me the fire HD 10 is not supported... :(

Thanks for the help.

Hi @mdo!

Welcome to our community!

In such cases I suggest you to first check the remote access connection.

Then check if you see Fibaro in Amazon Web inteface.

  • Hi @I.Srodka,

remote access is working. I use it a lot with the fibaro android app.

Which amazon web interface do you mean? The skill is activated and paired with my fibaro-id. Thats the only sign of fibaro in the whole alexa app.

    edit:

    May it be this problem:

If yes, there is a problem. I'm from germany and the german amazon site didn't offer the custom skill...

  • @I.Srodka, ok. There is no sign of fibaro, but the skill itself.

    edit:

    @I.Srodka:

No answer since 4 days. Does it mean, there is no solution for my problem? :( Do I have to wait for the germen release of the custom-skill?? :(

  • I found another possible problem in my network setup. My router is a speedport w724. And it does not support UPNP. But Alexa needs it to find the devices.

Can someone confirm that this is the problem?

Hello, I dont think that it is a UPNP thing. As I understand the Alexa Skills they do not really control or read out your HC in your house, the Alexa Skill runs on Amazon Servers and they connect to the fibaro Servers with your fibaro id. Then the fibaro servers connect to Our HC via remote access and give commands to your HC or read it out and give informations to the alexa skill.

One issue I had was that the alexa skill isn’t working if the time and date isn’t correct onyour HC. In my case there was the date on 01.01.2010 and then it wasn’t working. I think that has something to do with certificates, but this is really a deep technical thing. Just another try to check.

  • I dont get it working...

    Date/Time is correct.

    Remote-Access is working.

HC2 Firmware and Alexa Version is up to date.

I rebooted everything a thousend times... But i get the same error over and over again.

I see only 2 possible solutions:

    1) The custom skill

    2) A new router

When will the german version of the custom skill be released?

    edit:

@I.Srodka, you answered in the following thread, that a HomeCenter search can be executed with the custom skill. Is it a possible solution for me? When will this skill be released? Link:

    Hi @mdo!

Few mechanisms must have failed here but there is still a way out.

First of all, if you have only one Home Center under your Fibaro ID, the first one should be chosen by the Home Skill.

So at first, please try removing and adding it again.

If that doesn't work, here comes the most difficult part I guess.

Please change to Amazon account to US region, download both skills (Home and Custom) and having custom skill installed just ask: "Ask Fibaro to list all home center devices".

If I do remember correctly, you also need to change the address to some US one because that's how Amazon truly verifies it.

Then, you can change your settings back to German region and language.

  • Hey @I.Srodka!

I installed the custom skill and selected the first and only HC2.

But still no success... Error at searching smart home devices...

    I still need help. :(

    Edit:

Btw: I bought a new fritz.box and enabled upnp... So, this was not the solution.

@mdo, after you had selected the Home Center, did you try to control your house?

From what you're saying, it sees your Home Center right?

PS Could you PM me your HC serial number?

  • Hey @I.Srodka!

Yesterday evening, i got it working! The clue was to ASK Alexa to search for smart home devices. First I tried to click the "Search-Button". The result was the error mentioned above. But late in the evening, I was laying on my couch, and just tried to search the devices one last time... With my voice. And to my surprise, it worked!!

So, thanks a lot for your help! Now, I'm configuring my new smart-home interface "Alexa". ;)
