DW Sensor HomeKit - Very poor battery life

Recommended Posts

I have four door/window sensors compatible with HomeKit. Each consumes a brand new battery every three months or so. Is this right? For some reason, I have been under the impression that the battery should last over one year.

Hi @leotoni!

Did you make the firmware update for your Door Window Sensors?

What firmware version do they have?

Do you use our app?

Do you have the latest firmware version on Apple TV or your iPad?

You can also try if the LED indication set to 0 will help you:

  • Firmware version for the Fibaro devices is 1.1.0. I use Apple’s Home app, primarily, but have also downloaded Fibaro for HomeKit Devices. I could turn off the LED indicator, but I would be surprised if it was contributing to draining the batteries, as I rarely open/close the windows.

  • It took me several tries, but I managed to update all four devices to firmware version 1.2. I have also updated my Apple TV’s firmware to tvOS 11.2–my Apple TV is my HomeKit hub.

Lastly, most of the devices were incorrectly reporting as tampered, as their covers have not been tight enough to keep their inside buttons pressed. See this thread:

I have added tape to the inside of the covers, make them tighter. I suspect that this reporting as tampered was contributing to draining the batteries. I will observe for a few weeks now.

    Great info @leotoni!

Thank you for your valuable info.

I will mention this to FIBARO team responsible for this product development.

Please report back about the battery life after those changes.
