Plug-ins

Gondo

Question

Hello,

I'm just deciding which gateway I should buy - HC 2 or HC Lite. I don't need voice control, VOIP, master controller or LUA. I plan connect 5 thermostats, 7 blind controllers, some door and window sensors, 2 water leak sensors, sliding gate, 3 RGBW controllers and maybe some power outlets.

The only difference between HC 2 or HC Lite I've found are plug-ins. But I didn't find any info about them. Are they important? What are plug-ins for?

The price of HC 2 is more than double than HC lite. Are the plug-ins worth for this price?

  • OK, many thanks everyone for the answers.

So my first question about plug-ins is unnecessary, I understand that HC2 is far better and I have decided to buy it.

    Hi
With the number of devices you have planned, you should purchase an HC2.

It has much more power, and most importantly (like Jamie McCrostie @ writes) it can run lua.

HCL can also run plug ins.

My HCL is a bit overloaded, you can see configuration at the bottom.

    Thanks for your reply.

I'm not coder, so I'm not interested in programming in LUA. I choose Fibaro because of easy "block" programming.

And about number of connected devices - Fibaro website claims that it's possible to connect 230 devices to HCL. I read somewhere that it is better to connect 150 devices max., but this number is still far over my plans. I'll have maybe 35-40 devices in the future.

Is HCL really so weak? I think that HC2 is for me like "hunt sparrows with a cannon" as we say in Czech language. :)

I also recommend a HC2 instead of a HCL. The coding is something you'll get on the way ;)

The HC2 is much more powerful than a HCL.

@Gondo Its not about you writing

lua code, its about you using and adapting other peoples code.

    This is a huge advantage.

Most is just copy and paste and filling out id numbers.

Block scenes are a good way to get started but have many limitations.
