Alexa Smart Home - Device status

winromulus

Question

Hi,

I have multiple devices hooked up to Alexa via the smart home skill. It seems Alexa now supports getting the status of a device: "Alexa, are Kitchen Lights on?"

Is there a way to enable this for Fibaro devices as well? It would be extremely helpful to be able to ask Alexa for the device status. Right now we get a reply "Kitchen Lights does not support that" while other (non-Fibaro) Alexa integrated binary switches reply with the correct status.

h @winromulus, as far as I know you can't do that. I'm pleased to hear from other if it can.
Can you check below topic. Maybe this alternative.

  • @wpeetersI don't see which it cannot be implemented by Fibaro. The home automation skill SDK contains intents for such queries. I have a private home automation skill running to control a different system and it works quite well. It just needs Fibaro to update the skill to handle this.

@winromulus Yes, it should be possible offcourse, I agree with you, but it is not at this moment. And probably, it will also take a while before it will become possible.
Even then, most likeley, you can only request for one status. This alternative is a good one for me to give me multiple status feedback.

I agree with you and I do appreciate your solution. What I'm looking for is a status from Fibaro for their Alexa Smart Home skill, the official one.

I have alternatives, some of my own skills running, but this is not a "clean" solution. That official skill needs to be updated to v3 of interface, allowing for status queries.
