Aeon Labs Signaal Extender Z-Wave Plus

Den James

Question

Now the HCL is going well again, it's time to try to solve the next problem. I've got a gate and some lights in the garden that are connect to my HCL. But the connection doesn't always work. The distance is to far. Now I was looking for a range extender and found this one from Aeonlabs.

Does anybody have experience with this one? Or is the extra range the same as a Fibaro wall plug, what I use now.

Or maybe somebody has got a better sollution.

Thanks,

James

Almost any Z-Wave Plus mains operated device "extends" the mesh and acts as a repeater. As a bonus, such a device also has a function as a switch, or a dimmer, or ... while the Aeon has none. I do recommend Z-Wave Plus over older non-plus, but if you already own such an older device it is worth trying, by placing it between the controller and the gate. But do a "mesh reconfigure" when you move modules

Beware of "apparent thickness" and large metal objects, like this:

  • Now I use a Fibaro wall plug in between my indoor and outdoor stuff. But it doesn't seem to be strong enough. That's the reason I'm looking for a stronger alternative.

Z-Wave Plus is "stronger" than Z-Wave, and that is it. Modules with antenna wires are a bit better than Wall Plugs, because the WP antenna is rather close to the wires (cable)

Did you have at look at my picture? Maybe try a different location.

Did you go to configuration, Z-Wave to reconfigure the mesh of the modules?

I might need more details to give good advice...

  • Yes, I'm going to try to find a way to put the plug more strategic. That's a job for next week.

I did already reconfigure the mesh, but without result.

    I'll keep you informed.

  • I tried to make the network better. Now the distance to the garden modules is smaller and only a window in between.

    For the moment it works.
