Heat Controller doesn't use thermometer

My heat controller doesn't use the temperature from the external thermometer, I have paired it like the manual says (it flashes green 5 times) and the app also says it's paired correctly. But my app still gives me the inflated temprature of the heat controller itself. Even when turning of and removing the battery from the external thermometer the temperature stays the same.

What can I do to fix this, and how can I determine which device supplies the temperature?
