Does master / slave setup work for anyone?

alex88

Question

I have had a master / slave setup now for probably over 4 years and I can say that it's never really work fully.

There have always been issues, however with the new 4.5x series of firmware it was degraded to the point of being unusable / unstable:

- zwave network traffic issues - long delays or sometimes no communication at all

- all devices on the slave becoming unconfigured seemingly randomly

- slave devices on the master showing as "communication problems" i.e. they are greyed out and can't be controlled from the master via the web interface

- slave devices on the master showing as dead on the android app, so can't control them or see status - however many of these are visible through the web interface

...  just to name a few.

All-in-all, really bad experience. Tech support seem to be non-existent despite pleas for help and phone calls where I'm told to wait for someone to look at my ticket, but no one does look at it in the end.

Has anyone had any good experiences with master / slave setups and 4.5x firmware?

Hi @Amilanov,

I have a HC-2 Master - Slave setup for about 4 years now.

During those years it allways worked correctly.

Only thing is that I allways 'Import' the data from the Slave into the Master.

When I use 'Synchronise' my system gets messed up with a lot of double modules.

And, of course, allways keep the both HC-2's on the same firmware version.

But further on: No problems overhere.

Cheers,

Rick

  • So I was just unlucky when I rolled the dice and upgraded to 4.5 with a long list of new issues.

Shame there isn't consistency in experience yet with this platform.

Would you pls expand a little - do you have issues, if so which - or is it more the way the system is designed, or functionality you miss? Or are you actually fairly satisfied?

I think most of us, at least with a fair sized network, experienced that 4.5x introduced or increased instability in our systems - but are you able to pin point any other events along the timeline as to dip in performance or stability?

Master slave working fine for me no issues

re sync if your room names differ between master gayeway and slave it creates new rooms when syncing  as apposed to placing devices in existing masters rooms.

Yes, but I want all devices available in the Master. I don't want the Slave to have all devices.

Hello, I also have a problem.
I have three HC2 on the run.
One runs as a master, the other two as a slave.
In a slave I have a room with heating thermostat.
Everything imported in the master. With rooms.
If I now create a heating plan in the master for a slave room
The thermostat does not respond to changes in the heating plan.
The heating plan changes but the thermostat on the slave is not changed.
When I create a heating plan at the slave, it works. but I want
like to control everything centrally at the master.
    Why does this not work?

    After 4.5x upgrade :

    1. Many devices in my master show as having no communication from the slave in the Web interface(devices list), but in the room view they look fine.

I'm the mobile app they are dead in the master. You can't contol them. In the slave they work fine.

    2. Fibaro rgbw devices do not always report correct values, especially when there are real time changes being made.

    3. Master and slave need to be rebootrd at least once a week, else issues start to arise. Devices don't turn off from lua, responsiveness deteriorates, I wouldn't even bother trying to diagnose this. I have tried alot of things including running several of the cool apps people have built, to diagnose issues.

I have a longer list at home. I'll add more when I get a chance.

I'm running 4.53 now which admittedly is infinitely better than 4.51.

When you say thermostat, do you mean a linked device or a device that is a thermostat?

If you mean a device that is a thermostat, then I'm not sure. If you mean a linked device, then you need to create it in the master.

I had many issues with heating not working mainly down to zwave unreliability, but this  has stopped now, or at least I don't notice it anymore. Either way it's a good outcome.

On the slave is a Eurotronic Spirit thermostat.
The room and the spirit are imported in the master.
I can also create a heating plan for the slave room at the master.
    It works too.
But the thermostat on the slave is not responding.
