CEC control of Panasonic Viera TV

Beeker

Question

Hi All,

Apologies if this subject has already been raised....looking for an experts that might know the answer or have the solution.

I have added a VD from the Fibaro Market place for a Panasonic TV using  my HC2 on v4.530 to control the Panasonic TH-P60TST60A via ethernet which works and has no issue apart from when I try bringing the TV out of standby which does not work. I assume the ethernet port on the TV powers down when you place the TV in standby.

I want to avoid using IR and I have a Telstra TV unit which when I wake it up its brings the TV out of standby I assume using CEC on the HDMI.........is there any way of integrating either via a string or LUA to talk to the HDMI port on the TV from my HC2 using CEC?

Cheers

Beeker

@Beeker, Yes it is possible but it is a lot of work and requires an additional device.

Buy an RPI. It has an HDMI output port. Connect it to your TV. Install the cec-utils on the RPI. Write scripts for the commands you want to send and create a listener. From a VD in HC, you can trigger the listener.
Some of the sources I used, you can find below but remember if you're not a developer it may be difficult. You need to google for a lot of information and be able to use that information in one solution.

Additional difficulties will pop-up, like for example if you reboot your RPI, your TV will switch one. Also solutions exist if you google the particular problems.

So, conclusion. If you're not a programmer or not willing to learn and search or buy additional RPI, you better do it with IR.
