Controling a 25m 14.4w led strip as main light source

Question

Posted

Hello everyone.

I am really considering to move on fibaro eco system but i have some thinks i want to resolve first.

For start i have to say that my configuration until now in my home was mainly at Apple Homekit eco system and Hue lights. I thought to move on fibaro system only because it combines as the advertisment say everything at least the hue that matters for me. SO i went and buy a HC lite to start building my system with my Hue lights, for the first hour i was trying to set my hue lights as Lights on fibaro app but that wasn't possible because as i figure out the compatibility they say it has it's only as devices and not as lights.

And because all the above i don't want to go out and buy 7 dimmers and a couple of switches i need and then figure out that it's not compatible with my lights.

The tricky part is that i have my main led strip that is about 25meters and another two lights source about 10 meters that i want to control via fibaro.

As you can see in the pictures i know use Dimmers from Vimar to control my lights but i am going to replace them with vimar simple switch so i can make thinks less complicated.

My question is there possible to use fibaro dimmer two dim that kind of lighting ??

Thanks in first place !

    I don’t have rgb strip.

But what is the different between dimmer and rgbw controller ?? It can handle more watts some kind ??

with a rgbw controller you can control 12v or 24v led.   Adjust the separate  colors of  a rgbw source.  it seems that you have 24 led ?

I dont know how your exsisting controls work but they would probably need to be replaced with momentarily switches.

    For single colour strips

If your power supply is dimmable

then you can use a dimmer 2 on the mains side.

If not then you can use the RGBW on the low voltage side,

It has 4 seperate switchable channels .

I can see you have multiple drivers,

that maybe  tricky because rgbw modules need to be powered by the same power supply as they are switching so you will need a few of them or buy one bigger power supply.

Also remembering RGBW can only do max of 6amps per channel

12amps total per unit. Strips are usally  measured in watts per meter so you need to do a calculation to work out total amps

(in dc W /V = A ) to make sure you are with in specs.

Yes my led strips are 24v.

Now each power supply is connected on an amplifier and then on my vimar dimmer and i believe that the amplifier gets dimmed not the power supply. On my main light (25m) i have 4 power supply and 4 amplifier that connects on one dimmer.

I was thinking if i switched my power supply with this one

that it has a dimmable option build in and then use the dimmer 2 on it.

My only thinking is the dimmer 2 compatibly with any of this three options that meanwell support:

    3 in 1 dimming function (0~10Vdc,
10V PWM signal and resistance) and built-in potentiometer

I recon since your using amplifiers

1 x RGB module will work with that feeding the amplifier

Ok you mean as my setup stands with 4 power supply and 4 amplifiers hooked up to one rgbw controller will handle the load ??

I thought you just dim the amplifiers with the RGB module

    It doest take any load

They have 24v in 24v out

    and 24v signal in correct?

Checking your photo signal is marked as “input”

By rgbw module you mean the amplifiers ??

    “Fibaro RBG module “

in this case it doesnt switch any load

just controls how dim the output is on the amplifier

The amplifiers mean you can have multiple seperate power supplys but a common dimming control looping them together

Sorry for that but my initial setup was made by an electrician guy and i don't have many knowledge about how this thinks works 100%. I am trying to understand what is the possibilities of fibaro dimmers or rgbw so i can explain to him to hook them up.

I think in my case i dim the amplifiers not the power supply directly. If i get you right you suggest to hook the fibaro rgbw on my amplifiers so it can dim them ?

In my current setup i use this power supply

Yes fibaro RGB module which is powered by the first power supply

then in turn tells the amplifiers to dim

So your exsisting wall controls would be redundant but you could wire a momentary pushbutton to fibaro rgb for local control

    Push once on

    push again off

    push and hold dim up

you only using 1 channel so you only need 1 push button

Well after a long thoughts i want to replace my power supply and my amplifiers and my dimmers with some mean well power supply that can get dimmed itself and replace my dimmer with Toggle switch so everything gets more simplify. Then i would like too use fibaro dimmer 2 connected directly to mean well power supply so i can dim the lights.

The only think is that i don't know if the fibaro dimmer 2 is compatibly with the 3 in 1 dimmable option that mean well supply says that support. The tree ways is

3 in 1 dimming function (0~10Vdc,10V PWM signal and resistance) and built-in potentiometer
And here is the technical pdf of the power supply
    Any suggestion on that ???

    Hello again !

Its been long time since we Talk About this thread.

I wanted to ask you something. in all diagrams i see About Fibaro rgbw I see that I need two cables from my switch to go directly to the Fibaro module. In my case on the switch I have only 2 cables one cable with constant electricity and one cable that is going to the power supply.

Will this work with the Fibaro rgbw ?
