Make Sonos play when i open garage door

eide@maceide.com

Question

Hi,

I would like to have my Sonos-player start playing music when I open my garage door.

As far as I can see, I only have one option as I have a HCL, and that is to use IFTTT.

How can i set this up?

Ive tried making variables that change bases on the doors state (controlled by Aeotec garage door controller) and scenes that activate based upon the state of the variable, but i cant make it work..

The main problem seems to be that both the scene for "Play music" and the scene for "Pause music" starts at the same time every time the state of the door changes..

Also tried "interlocking" the inpud by adding an opposite state, but still triggers them both at the same time.

Examples

Play music scene:

Pause music scene:

Scene triggering is the only option I can see for making this work, as the Aeotec controller dont show up in the other triggers..

I have no problem making the IFTTT applets work, that seems to go OK, but its the input im struggelig with..

Do you have a screenshot of the complete scene with the triggers above it?

What after “then”?

  • Hi,

There is not much more to this scene than what you see, at the moment.

    Here is a fuller screenshot:

I only need the scene to be ran by HCL for the IFTTT to trigger this applet:

The applet works fine, but the problem is that both of my scenes trigger at the same time, making the music start, and then stop again right after..

    Ok

I don’t understand why the device Garasjeport is added twice in the scene.

    Why not

When Garasjeport in opened then ...

Do you use the Krikroff Sonos Player VD?

  • I tried that to interlock the scene, but it didnt make any difference.
I have tried just "If garasjeport is opened then" but its the same. Both the scene with open and closed run at the same time for som reason.

For how long does the music needs to play? Is it always the about the same time of sometimes minutes or hours?

Does the garage door keeps open while playing or does it close immediatly after it is openend?

    I just tested something quickly.

I created a block scene with my kitchen door and created a test variable.

If kitchen door is opened/breached then change test variable to yes.

I created a Applet in IFTTT that when scene above activated then Sonos group pause.

This worked. The trigger in my block scene is the kitchen door.

You can created a new scene that if kitchen door is closed/safe then change test variable to no.

You need to create a second Applet in IFTTT that the music stops when scene above is triggered.

  • Maybe i didnt explain myself clearly:

I have two scenes in my HCL and two applets in IFTTT

One scene for open garage-door, wich triggers the applet for play sonos

The other scene for closed door, wich triggers the applet for pause sonos

The problem occurs as both my scenes trigger at the same time for some reason.

It should be a problem to have the same device as trigger in 2 different scenes because the value of that device is different in both scenes.

But you need to put something after then....

Create a variable predefined variable named Garasjeport with value open and closed. What happens when you create the first scene as followed

If Garasjeport is opened then change variable Garasjeport to open.    Use this scene to resume the Sonos speaker.

    Create the second scene

If Garasjeport is closed then change variable Garasjeport to closed.

Use this scene to pause the speaker.

I couldn't find out why this shouldn't work.
