Dimmer2 Burned

RiccardoCanetta

Question

Hi all,

I connected a Dimmer2 out of the box (i.e. without prior association to Fibaro) as described in this picture of the manual for 2-wire systems (I live in Italy)

with the switch being a simple momentary switch and the light being a LED bulb. As soon as we gave power back to the house, the Dimmer2 burned (on the Sx contact), and obviously power was cut automatically, as in a short circuit. After replacing the fibaro Dimmer2 with a normal Finder dimmer, we verified that both the momentary switch and the bulb work ok.

What did I do wrong? should I have connected just L and N of the Dimmer2 and associated it with HC2, changing some parameter before connecting switch and bulb? I am buying a new Dimmer2 but I don't want to burn another one...

Thanks in advance for your help,

Riccardo

You do not have a neutral line?

my experience with dimmer 2 (without neutral line) and a led bulb is not positive

    Hi

I have the classical wiring, L, N and ground (yellow/green cable) but this AFAIK is considered a 2 wire system. Am I wrong?

    Thanks

@rcanetta the colours are different in some country's

if you have phase/live  and neutral where the module is then we are talking "3 wire system"

    1 wire phase/live

    1 wire neutral

    1 wire to the light

so use the 3 wire setup

So by “wire to the light” you mean the cable between the rightmost contact of the Dimmer (“x”) and the light?

    thanks again!

@rcanetta how did you connect to the first dimmer2?

the ground cable should not be connected to the dimmer2, so you only have live and neutral?

I did it as in the diagram posted above for 2 wire systems, i.e. with N and Sx connected together...

    Thx

Hi. Did you finally connect it? how did it go?

I bought 2 dimmers here in Sweden and am a bit apprehensive to install them. Your post has scared me even more.

    Hi,

finally tried connecting it. Just the dimmer to the LED light (50W Power), there was continuous red light. I am not sure what to do now. Try connecting by-pass too? Any suggestions??
