Automating roof windows

Remi

Question

Hi all,

I am building a new house and I am wondering what my options are to automate the roof windows?

I read about Fakro Windows with Z-wave intergration.

But it seems those have some limitations, doesn't support % open, just full open and close.

And I read some people have trouble to add them at all to their system.

What other options do I have?

Are there windows like sun screens which I can automate with a roller shutter module for example?

Any thought and/or  idea's how to achief this would be great! :-)

greets,

Remi

@Remi there a a lot of options,

i use for my windows fakro window openers, mine does not support x % open so i use a timer for that.

it is possible that the newer versions support this, i am not sure

and have a look at tradfri sun screens (rol gordijnen) they are really cheap (zigbee)

lot's of choices, check also somfy etc, there are no plugins for zigbee, somfy and other protocols so if you only use homecenter then the choices are limited

  • Hi @akatar ,

Thanks! Hmm did you make a VD which calculate the slider to a time value?

So when your window is opening you can stop it at any moment?

During my search i found this window motor. If i am right this is a 3 wire 220v. (Common, open, close wires)

This sort of motor should be able to use with Fibaro Roller shutter module, dont you think?

@Remi I use from 3 years four Fakro roof windows (one with rain sensor for all windows) with z-wave modules (12V version). They support % open by fibaro interface, by associated device or by lua scenes or VD.

    Any problems.

Hi @drboss , Thanks! Thats good news.

Do you want to share which Fakro window you have precisely? (Model/type number)

@Remi a rollershutter 3 cost 44,50 so that is not that expensive

@akatar Thats indeed not that expensive to do this afterwards.

Install a manual Window and buy the motor and roller shutter module later.

The window model is irrelevant. I have different types because of the size. The z-wave driver firmware version installed by Fakro is important.
I have version fw 1.1 z-wave protocol 4.33 in 1 window (this with rain sensor) and version fw 1.1 z-wave protocol 3.83 in 3 other windows.

ps. I was one of the first people testing new drivers and when I bought windows I consulted any issue with Piotr Gruca <[email protected]> Specialist for Automation Research and Development at Fakro. He tried to be very helpful.

  • Ah thanks for that information, very useful ! :-)

Do you also have a separate Fakro remote? And can you use that remote to open de windows while the fibaro is connected too?

Or doesn't the remote work when you use Fibaro?

Yesterday I wend to the Fakro showroom in The Netherlands and they had setup the whole showroom with Fibaro and roof windows, sunscreens, roller blinds, Venetian blinds.

They had at least 10 windows added to Fibaro.

Everything was functioning correctly. Open and close was possible in steps of 10% they told me.

That's for the windows itself, but also the sunscreens rollerblinds and venetian blinds.

So this gave me a good feeling this should be possible to get it work. :)

No, I don't use remote from Fakro. I use associated  S2 circuits from my Fibaro Dimmers mounted in wall near to entry and bed for switch and dimm lamps in rooms. As remote I use smartphones . But I tested with fibaro keyfob or SmartSystems Remote5, with this two work fine with windows and blinds from Fakro and others.

Later edit: Fakro just confirmed me that the motor is not reporting back its position. So again, I wonder how the VD is able to do this. Thank you in advance for sharing with us the VD file.

    Hello

I'm using the 230V model, ZWS230, version 3.10, together with HC2 latest FW. But I can only open and close, not intermediary positions. I also wrote to Fakro, let;s  see what they will reply.

What version is yours? Can you share the VD file that you are using to control them?

    Thanks

@cristimv I have 3 of those, and they don't report back.

I use time for these windows, open, wait x seconds. stop
Every evening at a certain time i close the wndows so i know what is postion is.

Later edit: with the current scene for opening up, considering the internal attic temperature and rain conditions outside, the windows will be 100% open in several minutes....

I think I will just sell these and get the one below, combined with a roller shutter.

Thanks @akatar. I've changed my LUA scene and it works like this. Strangely, now I'm getting this error "Unknown shutter position reported, please recalibrate it." Anyhow, for the moment is fine.

see manual of your device and do an automated calibration, error will be resolved.

There is no way to calibrate it, as the motor is not able to report back the position. This cannot be done neither on the motor itself (checked again the manual), neither in Fibaro. There is no calibration button available, as it is for the regular roller shutters.

You have to learn to live with that error

I would also be very interested in this. Even with a high ceiling height in the attic, I would consider regular ventilation important. And it would be important to be able to adjust the window between open and closed.
