Anybody running Wall Plug with big loads

Question

Hi, is there anybody who's running big loads through Wall Plugs? Not over 11A, which is the limit according to the specs, but close to 10A (in my case purely resistive load). Is it fine (lifespan)? Is it heating up?

I have been using a wall plug for my greenhouse for a couple of years now. There I have lighting and a 2 kW heating fan, and I have not had any problems with it´and it does not get particularly hot either. However, I know that low power LED lights can be a problem. The contacts "weld", perhaps due to high (perhaps inductive) starting currents.

good Morning

An LED is a capacitive load for a switch.
This means that a very high current flows when switched on (approx. 12 times).
This high current causes the contacts to burn and weld.
To avoid this, you should install an inrush current limiter.
This is the case with many devices today, as the power supply units, ballasts and controllers behave in this way.
The service life of normal contacts is reached quickly.

  • Luckily for me, my load would be purely resistive (electric heater).

     

    @RH_Dreambox If the 2kW is handled fine, I would say, gladly, Fibaro is not making the 11A/2,5kW maximums from thin air. ?
