Sensor detected high temperature

Question

Just installed 2 smart implant on 2 garage openers. Both smart implants' power supply are from the garage opener' built-in 30v 50mA. They both work as expected except I get this warning every now and then: "Important! Sensor detected high temperature. It may mean potential fire." Upon checking smart implant internal temperature, they hover around just below 60c most of the time.

Ambient temperature is around 25c.

Wiring: 2 wires to power supply and 2 wires to output 1 

Is this normal or do I need a power supply with higher mA rating?

I have the same warning sometimes on other Fibaro devices.

Check your temp and probally its a false alarm

It is unfortunately not uncommon for Smart Implant and Universal Binary Sensor (UBS) to send incorrect temperature warnings.

I have a UBS with four sensors, but it is only one of the sensors that sometimes sends warnings about high temperatures.


My experience with 1-wire systems is that the problems can be reduced by reducing or increasing the length of the sensor cable a few decimeters.

The fact that I myself have not fixed the sensor's cable length is due to the fact that it is difficult to access, and that it has no important function.

If the unit has a built-in sensor, there is not much you can do.
I also have a Smart Implant that is supplied with 12V 20 mA and it works perfectly OK.

  • Put both on 9v 0.3a power supply today, seems have solved the problem. Now internal temperature hovers around 30-35c.

    Good plan.  The internal step down from the higher voltage (30V) to the chip voltage (5V?) results in wasted heat.  A lower supply voltage therefore reduces the temperature of the device.

     

    As a workaround for other people:In the HC2, there is a temperature threshold you can set on Configuration -> General -> Above this temperature a notification of a potential fire will be sent".  I think the default is 60C, so you could set this higher if you were unable to reduce the siupply voltage.
