Question

Witam,

Pozdrawiam

Artur

Hi there

If you only have one normal line in the garden (3x1.5) then you have to build the participants outside.
For that you have to make sure that you have the mash (z-wave) outside.
Mostly it is a range problem that makes something difficult.
First try without much effort whether you can still operate participants e.g. FGS-224 so far from the house.
If you manage to do that, you only have one problem with the humidity and the temperatures.
You can solve the problem with moisture by installing a junction box (IP55 or better) in which you install the participant.
Make sure that the junction box is made of plastic, otherwise the participant will not see a z-wave!
That with the temperature is a different matter.
The specifications of the FGS-224 say 0-35 ° C and in winter it will certainly be well below 0 ° C for you too.
You can also do something there, e.g. build a resistor into the can that keeps the temperature above 0 ° C, but that is a bit more difficult to safely design and build.
But since you rarely need outside light in winter, it would certainly not be a problem if it no longer works.
You can display and signal something like this with the software.
When it gets warmer again, the problem will be resolved by itself.
Try your luck.
Greetings from the neighboring country
Frank

  • Hi,

Thank you for your response. I don't anticipate the problem with z-wave range (it is a smal garden). I thought exactly about the same IP 55 box what you mention, but the winter and temperature bellow 0 ° C is the challenge... do you have any idea how it can be done?

    Regards,

    Artur

I have more then 10 devices outside (wall plug, dimmer 1 and 2, double switch, smart modules)  in platic ip68 boxes for more then 4 years...  in winter we get -20 celsius sometimes. The wall plugs are not in cases, but they are shielded from rain/wind.

No problem at all. The devices make their own heat :)

Most important thing is to make sure no water/condensation gets inside.
