Question

Posted (edited)

Ambee changed their API policy to only paid and a (too) short trial time.

This QuickApp gives access to real-time pollen count - tree, grass and weed, of any location in Asia, Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand by latitude and longitude.

Pollen is a fine powder produced by trees and plants. Pollen can severely affect people, especially those with different ailments such as asthma and respiratory issues. It can aggravate these existing conditions or cause these issues in high risk groups.

Grass Pollen: Pollen grains from grasses. Measuring unit is pollen particles/m³

Tree Pollen: Pollen from trees such as Birch and Oak. Measuring unit is pollen particles/m³

The QuickApp provides a risk evaluation with levels

  • Low - Mild risk to those with severe respiratory issues. No risk for the general public
  • Moderate - Risky for those with severe respiratory problems. Mild risk for the general public
  • High - Risky for all groups of people
  • Very High - Highly risky for all groups of people

Yes, it is the time of the year a lot of people can have pollen allergies. This QuickApp won't solve your problem, but you can measure the amount of pollen in the air and warn if there is a higher risk.

    Hi Eddy,

    Nice work.

I see on Ambee that there different more data.

Did you have made QA for soil and wathervapor?

This is maybe handy for make a scene (setpoint in watering/sprinkler device).

    Thanks.

Hi @Fireman Thanks for the compliment.

I haven’t yet made the quickapp for soil and watervapor yet. It should not be difficult. Only limitation is the 100 Api calls a day for the free account.

The QA is on my todo list, won't be that difficult.

    EDIT: see

Important Info for all using this QA:

I received the following today from ambee:

    Quote
    Dear User,

We have updated the terms of the current free/basic plan. According to the revised terms, you can use the existing plan for the next 15 days. During the next 15 days, you will, as usual, be able to make 100 free API calls/day.

Once this time period lapses, your account will be deactivated unless it is migrated to a paid plan. If you wish to continue using our services, please feel free to sign up for our paid plans or reach out to us about your requirements, and we'll design a custom plan just for you.

Ok, they are quiet active now:

    Quote
    Dear Registered User,

Thank you for signing up to use Ambee's APIs.

We have noticed that your account has been inactive for 30 days, without making any API calls. In light of this, we will be deactivating your API key within the next 48 hours.

If you’d like to reactivate your access, please click

Please login or register to see this link.

    .

Please login or register to see this link.

If you do not take any action, your unique API key will be deactivated. However, you can always sign in to your account and get a new API key at any time.

We thank you for your interest in improving planetary health with environmental intelligence and look forward to working with you again soon.

Interesstingly, the QA states the last update is from today ...

Sad to see that, but I think this was clearly coming.

    Thanks @ImaginaPixJS

I received the same mails. The second is a bit odd, the account doesn't have any inactivity.

Mail 6th of August 2021 from Ambee:

Please login or register to see this attachment.

I think they try to get us to a paid plan. That is the end of the free plan. If anyone wants to pay, the QuickApp will continue to work.

BTW for the soil moisture, soil temperature and surface temperature, there is a good alternative, see

(I have contacted Ambee to see what is going on, but I doubt I get a satisfying answer, earlier contacts weren't that constructive. If so, I will stop the development of the Ambee QuickApp.)

    Totally understand that step Eddy.

I just wanted to give a warnign ahead for using it at the moment.

I do not plan to switch to a paid paln. Had some questions and never got an answer and so I will not support them with this step. So as soon as they deactivate my key, I'll uninstall the QA.

But again thank you for it Eddy !

  • For me similar experience with support. During testing I got some messages I exceeded the quota. Seemed they counted on answers (you can get more than one answer), not on calls. But the site said calls. They responded quick on my question but the answers were not what I expected 😉

If I cannot test the quickapps, because I have to pay for an account, it will be the end (no hard feelings with Ambee). I build the quickapps unpaid, perhaps I bring Ambee new customers and then I have to pay so I can test my quickapps. That is not how I work. They should pay me 😁, but that is also not what I want. So let's see what their reaction is.

I have some alternatives in the making:

Just to be sure, always a Plan B

  • Looks like Ambee is closing its measurements:

"Access denied as you are not subscribed to any plan or you are not allowed to access this endpoint"

Ambee changed their API policy to only paid and a (too) short trial time.

Well, Ambee didn’t even bother to react on my mail, so unfortunately I cannot support the QuickApp anymore.

See AccuWeather Pollen or Tomorrow.io Pollen for the alternative.
