Difference between Switch 2 and Smart Module?

Wigster

Question

Hi,

I want to install something inside my bathroom's switch for the extractor fan, so I can control it based on a humidity sensor. Am I supposed to use a Switch 2 or a Smart Module? Are they basically, the same, or is there some difference? I cannot really understand the difference between these two very similar products.

Here is an answer from Fibaro support:

Smart module (FGS-214) we recommend to use for watering or stove valves.
Smart module works with 100-240V~ 50/60Hz or 24-30V DC.
Single/ Double ( FGS-213) we recommend to use for light and electronic devices who works with 100-240V.
We don't recommend use smart module with lights

Single/Double Switch2 does support zero crossing detection, since firmware 3.3 ->"Synchronization of switching in zero-cross - reducing the possibility of welded relay contacts". So they work much more better for lights/electronic loads (as they designed for) as Smart Module/Double Smart Module (as they designed for resistive or incandescent loads only). Of course when one have "incandescent lamp", no porblem at all, until you replace it with led load^^.

There is another one thing, Single/Double Smart Module does support z-wave encryption with S2, while Single/double Switch2 only with S0 encryption.

Hi all , Newbie here.

I have installed a couple of double smart modules at led loads and have no issues untill now.

It is true that on the official Fibaro website the description of the product does not mention anything about lights.

I have seen many other websites ( e shops ) where lights are mentioned in the description of the product.

Do you reccomend to uninstall them ?

Thanks,

Dimitris
