Dimmer 2, why N linked out with 3 position switch ?

skeltonmfc

Question

Can someone tell me why Sx is linked to Neutral in this drawing is Sx a Neutral or live or is it just a dry contact that triggers something in the dimmer ??? does S1, S2, Sx give out voltage or are they just contacts. Also i assume that the blue wire with the brown sleeve is a live ?.   I have wired my extension so all three cores and all lighting feeds go back to a box in my utility room by my rack for flexibility so i can make whatever switch control whatever light.

thanks in advance

This is the 2 wire setup for Dimmer 2. the 3 wire setup is more reliable, particularly at low dimming levels.

Sx is not a dry contact.

The blue wire with brown sleeve can have 230V on it, so yes, consider it "active".  Some would call it a "switch" wire.

" I have wired my extension so all three cores and all lighting feeds go back to a box in my utility room "  ... my electrician did just that for me today in our new extension.  He reckons it's a great architecture. :-)
