My use case - FGD-212

gurpal2000

Question

Hi newbie here. Confused!

I have a FDG-212 dimmer 2 module, a compatible controller (HE) and a few dimmable LEDs.

With a physical 2-button retractable switch, I would like one button to control the local load and the other to activate scene(s).

Is this possible at all with the equipment above? If not, what do I need, eg. a different type of switch, different type of module, multiple 'panels' on the wall or re-think completely?

edit: can i use association groups on S2 or something?

thanks

  • I think i self-answered (correct me if wrong).

Manual says "Switch connected to the S1 terminal is a master switch. It activates the basic functionality of the Dimmer 2 (turning the light on/off, dimming) and starts the learning mode (Add/Remove). The switch connected to the S2 terminal is an optional switch and pushing it without changing the configuration parameters will not affect the status of the device. Functionality of the switches can be reversed by adjusting parameter 22."

So it implies that S2 can be used to send 'messages' to the controller to do other things.

Say if I have 3 physical lighting circuits in a room, i'd need to most probably use a wall remote (eg. wallmote) to indepdently control all 3. It means 2 'plates' on the wall. 1 plate is say for the main lighting using the Dimmer 2 and the other plate would be for a wallmote. Is there any way i can accomplish what i want with only 1 plate on the wall somehow? Im in the UK.

S2 can send Scene Activation frames (using Command Class Scene Activation) to the controller which can trigger scenes if this is supported on hubs side.
To activate this changing configuration parameter is needed - you will find everything you need to know in device manual (which parameter to change, IDs of the scenes which will be send when using S2 button).

Thank you. So the S2 button could theoretically activate 2 more circuits - say both circuits on independent switch modules. In terms of operation how would multiple scenes be triggered using retractive action? Is it like 1 click vs 2 clicks meaning scene 1 and scene 2. How would i 'cancel' the scenes independently?

Available scenes identifiers and actions needed to be performed on buttons:

So in theory you can trigger 5 different scenarios using S2 button (with momentaty switches) and 4 with toggle switches.
