Extending ZWAVE Network to Garage

kennymaclean

Question

Hi

I have attached a very rough diagram of my setup.  I have tried to install a double switch 2 as noted on the diagram however I cannot get it add. Do you think the makeup of the walls is sufficient to prevent me from being able to extend the network to the garage with the modules that I currently have?

I have used my fibaro motion sensor range test function and immediately outside the garage I can get a solid green light indicating direct connection to the HC2 but when I go inside the garage it drops to yellow meaning a indirect connection and then when I go right next to the wall inside the garage where the switch is it turns red meaning no connection.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to over come this?

Would an Aeotec range extender on an inside socket  on an external wall of the house help?

Does anyone have any experience with adding the device close to the HC2 temporarily and then moving to final position.  I have read that this potentially helps?

Thanks

Kenny

You will need a mains powered device between your home and garage, Aeotec range extender will to the job but every main powered device works as a repeater - so maybe you will find something which will do something more for you than just repeating the signal.

You can add device close to the gateway but it won't change a thing if there won't be a device between to route the signal.

Michał
