Geofence - add Compass and Speed

Hi Fibaro Team, @m.roszak, All

Hope that you are doing well.

I found Geofence in HC3 very useful and using it on daily basis with different scenarios.

But now Geofence engine can provide only "enter" and "leave" actions, but not giving direction - from where user entered geofence zone and where left

I check iOS API and found that app can access to compass data and provide 0-360 degrees information while user enter geofence zone.

Please login or register to see this link.

For me it will be very helpful, because for every zone I can understand direction where users going - to Home or away from Home, etc...

Also it can be possible to get iPhone speed via API (!)

for city it can be useful - to start scene only if user shows near home only on foot, but not in car/bus/etc..

how do you think - it's possible to implement ?

Thank you in advance.

That is problematic, are you always having phone in front of you for the compass to work?
If it will be in a pocket its orientation can't be used as direction :)

So, even if this can be implemented it does not make any sense.

  • @m.roszak, sadly, but you 100% right :(

to All - maybe you have better ideas, how to understand moving direction with Geofence zones ?

I think it could be possible to get GPS data in regular interval and calculate direction.

Yes and no, this is the way old positioning worked on HC2 - this drained a lot the battery and due that we moved forward to geofencing which is handled in different way.
Is is, for sure possible but not so easy.

Maybe a workaround? 2 zones, one in home and one in the direction you generally drive.
Then - use the sequence of events to check the direction.

Yes, I'm using this idea for last 2 years, but it not working good - many situations, when iOS / Fibaro not report one of the locations - whole idea is compromised with so high level of errors.
