OK. Full incompetence of the Fibaro support.

Question

As my system is dead for 6 days already (latest "beta" not working at all, not possible to downgrade), I opened a support case (last Friday)

I specially asked them to check recovery partition (USB flash) for corruption.

Finally, after 5 days, Fibaro support managed to log-in to my Fibaro HC2 just to tell me: "I managed to login. It seems that everything is okay in that part of system.

"

Then they asked me (!!!): "In order to fully diagnose the problem with the control panel Home Center 2 please connect the monitor / TV to VGA or HDMI slot hidden under the aluminum plug cover."

OK, I did that. Guess what? The recovery is not booting as (for sure) the file-system / partition (ext2) is corrupted.

Brilliant. Instead of asking me to do this stupid procedure, they can easily check filesystem remotely.

Finally, I realised that Fibaro software simply not checking FS and in case of damage / USB flash errors you'll be completely unaware that something is really wrong, until you'll try to restore backup or downgrade for example.

Such a stupid design, honestly.

p.s. yes, usb flash is dying, a lot of I/O errors. Looks like flash drive worn out.

p.p.s. I'm angry, very angry. I'll definitely pay back as Fibaro is simply making fun of customers.

Scotfree, the craziness is that it could be fixed in a very simple way

    1) To send a replacement USB key (the price for 4GB is about 5$) via any postal service (2$)

    2) To provide some automated way to format any purchased USB stick (free for Fibaro)

As I've got my flash dead two times (both - with full configuration loss) already with full "service outage" for a few weeks in a row, I'm not going to use Fibaro HC2/HCL at all.

3-4 weeks to stay without automation - those guys are really joking.

And now they are trying to go into the US market

+1 for all of this. And I sympathise with you Shapa. My USB stick is now corrupt after a power cut and I have to pay to send the box back to Poland for an estimated 3 weeks - utter BS.

Hey Shapa I think if everyone thinks about it, we are all scared of losing our complete configuration. We're talking about consumer electronics here so deep down we all know sooner or later there will be a day that it breaks down and to be prepared for that day to happen people invented BACKUPS!!! Not on a recovery stick linked to a single device but on a NAS, server, external disk, ... I have absolutely no clue as to why Fibaro refuses to let us do that. Also I have no clue why there has to be a recovery on a stick that can only be used with that same HC2? Why not make the recovery internal then?

I must admit that I, as well as many others I suppose, purchased a HC2 because of the marketing movies and also because I think that paying a premium price will get you a premium product... I sure hope in the future this will be right but let's say I'm less optimistic than the day I saw the marketing movies...

When I decided to go from X10 to Z-wave I had a doubt to go either Vera or HC2 and I went HC2 because of their Apple-vision where everything is easy to configure. Guess looking at it now, Vera is as easy to configure and maybe Indigo too. I have a NUC somewhere in a cupboard and maybe I give Indigo a "go".

Still hope V4 will change everyhting though but I guess V4 has been announced for over a year now with only very buggy beta, alpha, pre pre-alpha, call it as u will, out to us.

Again, I lost all my configs twice.

Each time is 3-4 weeks and then A LOT OF WORK to do (full reconfiguration).

The product is far away to be premium - it's just like a Chinese car - looks nice only from 1 mile distance...

I "hacked" HC2 software to looks at the configurations. It's simply outstandingly awful. A lot of stupid errors in configs.

Very childish mistakes (not verifying filesystems properly, etc).

The best term is "scholarship lab".

Now I really understand why they closed ssh access and so hysterical about USB flash cards (refusing to send / provide formatting tools)

    Just to hide everything.

    And it is insecure.

That's why I'm really enjoying by software made in Texas, Austin (Indigo) - they know how to develop.

Shapa, Did you purchase Indigo Pro and the USB dongle from Intellihome for 179 Euro ? Going to give it a try.

BTW, Aeon provided tools to backup sticks, therefore you can make full z-wave chip backup (with z-wave devices paired) and restore it back to a new stick (!!!). So good to be true

    100% reliable solution.

It is not for everyone indeed - really professional software. It's just a photoshop (Indigo) vs paintbrush (Fibaro sowftare)

From a first moment GUI looks "ugly" but then you'll see that it is much faster and logical to use. Really nice feature is a client-server model - you can connect using Indigo client software to your server.

Full python (no any limits) and AppleScript supported. I.e. you can make anything what is possible on MacOS X.

Please feel free to ask me any questions as I'm nearly completed full transition process and really can't believe how fast and stable everything right now.

BTW the pairing process is so much more reliable - you need to disconnect a USB key (aeon), it has rechargeable battery.

Than just push a button on it (near from a new device), it will be included.

Insert back to your mac with Indigo, press "sync".

All devices which refused to work with HC2 (including scene controllers and new v3 homeseer 3 in 1 sensors) works just fine with Indigo. Outstanding.

Violation of Registration Agreement Terms IIIe. Posting direct links to another manufacturer's site, posting prices and constantly, spam-alike glorifying posts about his firmware in numerous threads, sometimes without relation to the topic is being treated as such. Warn

Scotfree, give the trial a go, i will even send you an Aeonlabs Z Stick if you want.

I started to migrate from Indigo, have been using it with X10 for years, and was sold by the glossy movies and the firmware upgrade for the devices , which i believe has never happened either. The UI for fibaro is nicer to look at, and if your not artistic like me, creating control pages is somewhat of a task. The only good thing fibaro has given me is some nice icons. But Indigo is so far ahead of Fibaro its not even funny.

Fibaro being so far behind, is about to be swallowed by the sharks and going to CEDIA to promote what can only be described as silly products just shows what is wrong with the company. Do they really think that Player will eat into the vastly superior Sonos market, or the indoor only intercom can keep up with Doorbot and the host of other new Camera doorbells.

I really think they have lost there focus. The launch of developer site that was broken at launch and the rush to get a V4 beta out there. How did it go from 3.90X to 4,017 can only be for CEDIA and to say its a V4 beta which we all know its not.

I'm with shapa here, back to the stability of Indigo with the vastly superior plugins and support network with my new icons I go.

Scotfree I have a lot of Marmitek X10 laying around here, including a CM11 and CM 15. I switched to Z-wave because of 2-way communication. Let's say I'd switch to Indigo, would I be able to use X10 and Z-wave together with the CM11 or CM15 and a Z-wave dongle?

I'd also give S.A.R.A.H. a go if you already run your Indigo or whatever Domo-software on a windows machine and have a Kinect. You won't need a beautiful app anymore.

    Dear shapa,

Regarding your case on [email protected].

Fibaro Home Center 2 contains few hardware parts paired together, hence Recovery memory should be considered as integral part of system. Also in terms of warranty procedure it should be treated as such.

I think we know how the situation is as of now, but we all know hardware doesn't last forever, so sooner or later we will all be screwed somehow as there is absolutely no way to backup our configuration as it is now. I guess with all the Dropboxes, google drives, microsoft one-drives, Ownclouds, ... in this world it would be fairly easy to give us a possibility to at least store our complete configuration in the cloud when the hardware breaks down. I say when and not if very deliberately!!

Tekvibes yes you can use CM15 and Z stick together, and Insteon (only in US ). I've also got an RFXCOM interface on the mac mini as well as a Somfy transmitter. Thats 4 very different interfaces on one box, not counting IP obviously for which there are some great fully functioning plugins, all extremely stable. I was part of the beta testing when Indigo introduced Z wave support and considering they were starting from scratch, and Fibaro is a purely Z wave box, Indigo, with 2 developers/support people took 6 months to integrate Z wave to there existing application, and then added support for the various devices.

If you ask for a product to be added, you will wait no more than 1 month max for that support, generally a lot quicker, also the guys may send you a file with an updated z wave engine before the next release for you to try with the product included

Not sure if Indigo supports UK controller (I checked, not supported yet - only American)

Regarding fibaro answer - one more serious design flaw, to link USB backup flash with the system.

I've lost countless hours of my life trying to manage HC2 working properly.

I did the same in 2 days with Indigo. Shame on me, again. Never, ever will go back to Fibaro software.

    Well well well.

Fib guys, as the owner and principle Director of an engineering design practice I have to say I'm surprised that you appear to be a little more concerned about the content of Shapa's posts in relation to the site rules rather than resolving the reported issues.

The purpose of this forum, by your own admission, is to discuss issues. Well in case you didn't notice Shapa is raising an issue which is being reiterated by seemingly significant numbers of other "customers". If I did this to my customers I would expect them to walk which is why I don't. I listen to their issues and act ON them, not AGAINST them.

I'm a mechanical engineer not electrical, but I can't imagine it is against the realms of impossibility to do what people are asking for, which is simply to allow them to back up (externally) their hours of hard work in formatting a system which appears presently to be somewhat volatile at best. If you did a back up of a network in an office environment ( as I do twice a day) you don't do it on the same PC; you do it either on an external drive which you can take off site (actually required by our ISO9001 auditor) or save it to the cloud. To "back up" to the self same piece of hardware seems to me to defy all logic relating to back up.

Come on guys there is a HUGE market out there and if you do it wrong now when new kids are doing it right you will get blitzed and before you know it Fibaro will be no longer, which it seems isn't really going to be a big issue for many given the problems currently being encountered.

Do it right and you will survive. Keep taking the p*ss and you will undoubtedly fail! no matter how glossy your advertising is.

I look forward to your reasoning (realistically and honestly) as to why you won't let us make back ups of what is actually our work, not yours, to a place of our choice.

Sorry for typos as I'm on a mobile device.
