USB stick hell

robmac

Question

So lots of us over the past year have suffered from failed USB drives.

The problem is that the USB stick is tied to the HC2. We can guess that it is probably using the USB serial number and possibly manufacturer as a key.

So in the event it happens to you, providing you have a copy of the volumes from the disk prior to corruption you may be able to recover.

We know you can copy from one device to another so before you give up:

Scan the surface of your failed USB. If it is good recover the backup volume back onto the original device.

Sadly if the USB has surface errors it is send your HC2 and USB back to Poland time or swap it under warranty with your retailer.

Regardless it has to be worth making a backup copy as when you get your replacement HC2 from your retailer you can copy files onto the new HC2 and recover as in this post.

The funny thing is that Fibaro has not been able to explain nor convince their community of the need or wisdom for their "policy". So to be personal: Am I dum?

Even Fibaro must have noticed that we are not laughing.

What IS Fibaro thinking?? Funny peculiar, not funny ha-ha!!!

I've been following this issue from the sidelines for some time now, and no can hold back any longer to add my voice.

No self-respecting system should rely on a single on-site recovery system. Fibaro's argument is that it's for reasons of system security, which I find extraordinary! If you are relying on the current Fibaro ( or any HA system) for security you've got to be dreamin'!!

Oh, and if you think it's difficult to get a unit back to Poland from elsewhere in Europe, imagine what it will be like doing so from Australia!!! Reason enough to stick with Vera for our clients' in-service applications until such time as Fibaro sees the light.

    Come on, let's get real!
