OMG is no one knowing this?

There's also a vga connector, that's what you get when using a standard motherboard.

Why would you use hc2 as an audio device?

This really is an old question that you probably could find the answer from either in the HC2 manual or searching the oldest threads in the forum. The audio jacks are not in use and can not be used without having root access to the os and we don't have that for all kinds of reason (although rumor has it...). They are simply standard issue on the standardised motherboard that the HC2 is build around. The VGA jack i believe can be used for debugging purpose when the HC2 isn't connecting to the network.

This is a standard motherboard, with a standard *nix operating system. I don't know the root password, and I don't want to know. But because it's *nix you can reset the password. But then you've got some explaining to do, when things go wrong. It's the same thing over and over again... You can jailbrake your iPhone, root your android, ... If you like to do that, I can highly recommend a different brand of controller, to play/toy/develop/debug with. And keep the HC2 for home automation. I bought a R*Z***** P* to do that and I have reinstalled, reset, scratched, crashed, upgraded, hacked, firmware updated the hell out of it. There are certainly other controllers that allow root access, this is just an example and I am certainly not here to advertise for other brands.

The VGA is very important for troubleshooting if you can't access the web interface, or if the LED of your HC2 show an unusual pattern. I've needed that a few times and it's been reported a few times. In my particular case, the system didn't boot, black screen, so that was hardware (warranty repair). If you've got some linux experience, you can, for example, detect filesystem errors during boot. This has been reported a few times over the last years. This definitely helps you to decide wether or not to send it in for repair.

Back on topic. If you've got some money to spend... as much as the HC2 itself in fact, you can buy that So*** you've mentioned. The P***5 with a line-in. Distribute that to your other So*** players, no intermediate system needed. Use the HC2 plugin or the native app. Hook up your record player, or tape recorder, or friends portable player.

Did you put the * (asterisk) in place, or was it (auto) moderated?

    I censored myself

/emoticons/default_icon_smile.gif" alt=":-)" /> I found it hard to convey my message without naming brands, on the other hand I don't want to pretend that I know these particular solutions are really superior. If it didn't hint at the products, it would seem all rather vague, wouldn't it? But if I spell it out loud and clear, you might think that I am advertising. I'm not doing that. Anyway, I don't think anyone should be afraid of being censored. I've been around a while and the admins really only do that if you blatantly violate a forum rule. As an example, this is a user-friendly environment, so personal attacks are not tolerated.
