Playing a sound on a tablet

mrtn

Question

Hi all

Wonder of if anyone has got a clever idea how to do it.

I have got an android tablet mounted on a wall that I use to control scenes/alarm.

I am looking for a way to play an mp3 (any other format) sound file on this tablet from Fibaro. Is there any app that would accept request from Fibaro such as http to play a sound file?

Out of curiosity... what you're trying to achieve?

Do you try to execute TTS?

  • I arm and disarm the alarm from the tablet by using ImperiHome.

I was hoping to play a beeping sound when the main entrance door is breached until alarm is triggered. Similarly I want a beeping sound when alarm is arming before leaving home.

I've got your idea... may I suggest different solution by using Z-wave siren (Aeon Lab or Everspring) it works perfectly and in addition you can use it as alarm sound in case of someone breaks in.

To your question I don't know any app for tablet to play the sound.

  • I have currently got a Vision siren and have set it to sound for 1ms when arming the alarm. The thing is - it is soooo loud that someone will one day get a heart attack when they are not expecting it

I am trying to come up with something similar to an ordinary alarm which keeps beeping for x seconds until it's armed/disarmed.

    Thanks for your suggestion anyway

You could use Fibaro tablet application instead of ImperiHome,  the alarm sound is built-in there !!!!! and is volume controlled.  To my personal opinion Fibaro app is much better

    Hi mrtn,

i want to implement the exact same feature as you, using a tablet on the wall as main control interface in the house.

I think to use it to play different sound, not only for alarm, but, for example, also to singnal over power or garage door/gates left open, etc.

I didn't have a look into it yet but i'm trying to understand if apps like "remote desktop" or "airdroid" will let me do the job.....

Also, the ability to have TTS messages looks really interesting

The TTS messages are the best solution for all what you guys asking for.

There are some option for that:

    1. Sonos

    2. Emic2

    3. Raspberry PI

    4. UBI

    5. PC - windows built in TTS

Maybe you can use the 'Tasker' app?

    EDIT: just did some googling:

  • Hi all

Thanks for all suggestions - both TTS and Tasker.

Does anyone know if tasker can receive notification/command from Fibaro? I think this would be the easiest solution.

As regard TTS I need to do some digging as it sounds very cool but means another device need to be added which is not ideal.

EDIT: It appears that http requests commands can be send to tasker through an autoremote plugin. I will give it a go and get back to you with an update

  • I was planning on using a sonos speaker  for this function

I bet it's a pretty solution but I didn't want to add any extra devices plus I would imagine that the speaker must be constantly on?

I use a Aeotec Siren ZW080 for that purpose.

Put it on 85db and put an adhesive stripe over the 'speaker' outlets. With that, sound is just a little beep. Very good for signaling the time until alarm starts to go ballistic.

Works well and was not too expensive.

    Regards.
