So the new apple IOS is available and Fibaro was advertised as HomeKit compatible at Apple event.... is there any sign of HomeKit support? Would have thought this would form part of current BETA's?

I was expecting that, too. Fibaro, do you have any news on this?

You need new hardware for HomeKit-Support. On the offical FB-Page of fibaro they posted a statement, that they release new sensors.

well, i don't feel like updating all my sensors. Apple requires to have that encryption chip implemented, as far as I know, so I'll stick to Homebridge

Yes but why can't Fibaro just say whats required and when?

    Posted (edited)

Perhaps between now and iOS 11 (in 2017)?

How often we have seen vendors or manufacturers promised support for an iOS feature but delayed in rolling out?

Look at CarPlay. Look at Apple Pay.

Don't take me wrong. I wish the earlier the better too since I have a full Apple ecosystem and will definitely benefit from the HomeKit support a great deal.

So reading between the lines, they have 2 options (ok maybe 3). Assuming they have to have the Apple hardware chip, they can put this into the HC2 (and HCL) or put them in the devices. If they put them in the HC then Homekit can control all aspects of the automation. If they decide to put them in the devices, then you would control the devices direct from Homekit, which means you'd have scenes in both HC and Homekit.

Chip in the HC is the better way to do it (and what Philips did with HUE), but would possibly require a new HC - unless they could get the chip in a USB stick

Chip in the device is easier for end users, although would push up the cost of devices and splits the control from HC to Apple.

Option 3 is hardware emulation of the chip (encryption I think), but I don't believe Apple allow this.

At the end of the day, since Philips put Homekit in HUE, I haven't really used it, I use their iPhone widget much more. The thing Fibaro REALLY need to do is get their widget sorted to allow more than 4 scenes

probebly the stable will be 4.1

normally from 4.0 to 4.1 will have a couple of extra's

from 3.x to 4.x big changes

from 4.0 to 4.1 also some (lesser) big changes

    so who knows....

Well, I guess it's official now. HomeKit enabled sensors (flood, motion, contact).

Interesting that it's all over the tech news sites, but not on the Fibaro site itself.

No z-wave in these units. Just BLE.

No plans for a HomeKit enabled HC, according to SIIO.de

    This is pants!!

So HC can't be controlled by HomeKit....

If I want HomeKit I have to buy new sensors....

Existing setup won't work with the new HomeKit sensors...

No RGBW or dimmer HomeKit devices...

Existing fibaro app won't work with HomeKit devices???

    this is rubbish!!

we call Motion, flood, or break sensor a home automation? What a joke, I always thought that home automation will do all home appliances, just as they advertise, and now the joke with HomeKit, this is BS, and the next time I see something that incorporates to a more flexible platform out the window goes the HC2. Also Fibaro should get its *abuse* together, cause it's always putting a good show on but no Action.

    Why do you want HomeKit?

(says he is probably one of the biggest Apple fanboys around here)

Still - why do you want HomeKit? Is it really practical? Is it Siri you want? Would you really use Lili for controlling stuff around you? (Lili worked better, that is)

For me home automation is about automating. Not exchanging one way of flipping a switch (using your hand) for another (using your vocal folds).

But hey, that is just me..

But what direction is fibaro going?

we all have full system and now fibaro release stand alone sensors which won't work with our current system or even bridge in any way...

seems a a HomeKit bridge may have been better?

So users now have a HomeKit option but will require replacing everything and to get rid of hc2???

    seems really bizarre...
