IP Camera's and Internet

tcviper

Question

Hello all,

I've got my AXIS cams working on the HC2 Fibaro, picture and image is very stable and clear however when I try to view the camera feed when not on LAN, it displays a disconnected image. The Fibaro HC2 works perfectly fine itself over internet.

Do I specifically need to enable something for this to work when not at home (so when I browse via the Fibaro app on the iphone to my cams at home)?

Thank you :)

I guess it is using the local ip-address, so not reachable from the outside. You could use a portfoward and use that in the settings of the camera, but not really secure... Other solution is to use your own vpn (eq openvpn on a rpi).

@tcviper there are other posts on this topic, It look like there is issues with the remote fibaro (home.fibaro.com) via the app.  For me I get it to occasionally work as long as I exit the app before switching from lan to remote.

But it is hit and miss for me so far :(

Do you have fast internet connection (upload) from your home?

If not, it can be the MJPEG that is taking too much bandwidth.

i have great quality from my cams when im inside LAN (Both from App and browser).

The fps is around 20 but when im trying to connect outside LAN, fps is < 5, and i usually just get a quick "screenshot" from my cams and then a disconnected image.

I have 0.8Mbit UL so im not surprised..

  • Yes I have 40mbit/s upload, so that shouldnt be the problem. Also when i look at the camera's through Synology they work fine :)

I dont want to open ports directly to the camera's, that is not really secure.
