Person detection

Hello,

I am a novice to z-wave and have purchased Fibaro's Motion Detector. It is linked to a Vera Edge gateway. While it transmits the temperature, lux and detects motion successfully to my Vera app I am unable to locate the Fibaro's feature which detects the number of persons in the motion detector's view.

 

Additionally I have installed the Fibaro App on my smartphone but since I have no Fibaro Gateway (only Vera) I cannot complete its setup

This is not a supported feature of the motion sensor

That's surprising since Amazon's website (Amazon Germany) specifically states that this hardware "Fibaro FIBEFGMS-001-ZW5 5G 4-in-1 Multisensor" will detect the amount of persons as well as the duration of the detection.

Although I find Fibaro hardware is some of the best out there when used properly, they are undoubtedly the kings of over-zealous marketing.

Hello devfern24,

thanks for the link. I absolutely agree with you. In general I am quite satisfied with the hardware but on the other hand I feel misled by the fact that a sole detector will not function as advertised (on Amazon.de).

After all, I already have numerous motion detectors from a different manufacturer installed at my property but thought that replacing them with a "person counter" hardware would be beneficial. Real shame...

Person counter with a motion detector won't be feasible. Think about two people walking side by side you'll count them as one. And if one of them leaves the house you count it wrong again because the other person is still inside...

IR barrier + USB will be more accurate. With Fibaro Motion detector, you have blind time.

I have a few wireless IP cams on the attic and will use them instead. Thanks Jakub, as for the IR barrier, that's a project which I'm planning on for my large back yard where a motion detector is not feasible.
