Question

Posted

Afternoon all.

I have recently bought a load of Amazon Alexa echo's and dot's and would like to be able to play an MP3 track through them on a scene or device activation.

for example, if a door is opened, a chime sound effect is played. Is the shed door contact is breached, an alarm sound effect plays.

I can do this with my sonos and would like to be able to do it with the Alexa's.

Also, would be good to be able to get text to speech working on the Alexa's as well.

If anyone knows a way to do this, please let me know as it would be awesome to achieve this.

Thanks,

Hal

Hal,

seems to be impossible at the moment from view, since Alexa is more a source for giving commands (with help of HA-Bridge, or the fibaro skill (which never really worked - at least for me)) but not a targetable destination.

If anybody has a different state of knowledge I am happy to know as well.

Thanks for the reply on this.

I do use the HA Bridge and recently installed the 4.5.6 version and works flawlessly for voice controlling my Fibaro devices. Just would be ace to be able to play an MP3 from my NAS on an Alexa device.

I have also added in the Harmony Hub by Logitech on the HA bridge and Fibaro for flawless voice commands.

Works so well on the Sonos just a bit disappointed it can't be done (yet) on the Alexa.

Lets hope there is some whiz out there that has managed to crack the code and can offer a virtual device for Alexa.

Thanks again for the speedy reply.

@hal I guess we will have to wait to the day, when Amazon decides to open the device for that kind of interaction. Basically that would mean enabling Alexa to be completely remotecontrolled without any direct user interaction.

I am pretty sure there are lots of hesitations regarding that ability by the broad public.. even more privacy and security concerns.

@Hal : Maybe I can make your day here. You have Apache/PHP running in your setup?
