advanced heating control

hi

i'll try to build up a topic about more precise heating (and maybe cooling also)

currently we can control heating by turning valves on/off and using schedules to do that.

This probably works when the house is near perfect against thermal lags-meaning sudden drops of temp dont affect the inside temp that much.

anyway what i think would be useful to have temp control that looks at outside temp and can shift the time to start and stop heating in given environment. More advanced would be when system learns itself how long it takes to raise 1 degree at given outside temperature

what do you think and what are your current experiences with heating automation?

With HC2's support for Internet weather you'd expect this kind of climate change to control inside the house to be posible already. But i've not idea how to set it up properly with the scene rules.

Coupled with the problem that most of the z-wave devices for heating don't seem to work in my experience this year

want to bring this topic up again...

now that there are various possibilities to get weather conditions (

) for upcoming night, day, days and we can control heating panel via LUA then we could come up with heating schedule that is taking this into consideration

i read some articles i could find and mostly these parameters are taking into consideration:

    wind speed

    wind direction

    solar gain?

    temperature

i will try to get more document links here also

    post any ideas you get

    thanks!

    Hi Kuuno,

    thanks for the great article

I have been playing with adjusting heating based on outside temperature and this would be a great extension. When the weather starts to cool again and heating comes on I will try to add forecast.

One parameter you need to add is thermal mass. I have even found that this varies across areas in my house due to construction. Some rooms react faster to changes than others.

It's a very interesting but quite complicated problem. You have to include many more parameters that you suggest and add on top of it conflict between comfort and economy.

Anyway I think that it's a great idea to start a project and share ideas among us. Heating in my case is one of the most important aspects of Home Intelligence.

so lets start with the conception

    we need to know:

    wind speed

    wind direction

    solar gain?

    temperature

    house size, air mass?

    buildign material

    -----------------------

i think some of these parameters can be brought under one value?

because house w specific air mass, construction materials and etc takes x hours to raise the temp for 1 degree or requires y amount of energy to hold specific temperature

if we measure outside temp and see how often heating system has to start/stop to keep specific heating level..

    some ideas...
