Scene by iphone GPS Location

I have created the following scene:

Please login or register to see this image.

When my iphone is close to my house (100m) my dining-room lamp must turn on @ 40%.

But it just won't work!

The iphone Fibaro app can connect with my Fibaro HC2, is running in the background and it has also the right to access my location.

How can I create scene which reacts when my iphone is around?

Did you test this scene being outside this area and then entering it? Please remeber that these scenes works as triggers (works when changes the state - Outside are ->inside area)

Yes I have, does the HC2 knows I am 'Mitchell' by who is logged in, on the app on the iphone?

When I walk 200 meters away from my house, and back, with the HC2 app open on the iphone, nothing happens...

try a little further, as your Iphone's location might be done by the network location instead of GPS as this is not always on. that means that the accuracy can be a few hundred meters instead of tens of meters...

Next to that have you checked how fast your phone updates the location to the home center? there might also be a delay in that. So you also have to take that in account.

I have to say that this feature has never worked for me. I've had the update interval set to 5 minutes (not practical because of the battery drain) and my two geo zones are 50 miles apart so accuracy doesn't play a part (I hope!). I travel between those two zones everyday. It's never triggered (and it's tied up to the voice channel "Dave is nearly home"

But what can be the problem so we can fix this? I am really missing the ability to watch logs of the HC2 System, so I can see if the HC2 sees my iPhone.

Mitchell, doesn't the "History Panel" show GPS events?

I don't actually know if they are logged there, as I haven't tried the GPS feature (next on my list).

    Hi Dave,

still trying to understand why my Aritech C-175 alarm doesn't bring OUT1 down to 0V

When entering the 200m circle around my house I turn on my exterior lights and automatically open the exterior gate (useful as I ride a bike most of the time and taking off the gloves to open the gate was annoying me

The bd thing is that in fact having the GPS turned on all the time consumes a LOT of battery.

Are you using the "Arrives at a point" or "Appears in" trigger?

    Regards,

    Miguel

I'm using the "Appears in" as per the first poster (MitchellOnline). What are you using ? Not even sure what the difference is.

    Hi Dave,

in the below picture you can see what my config is...

The "Arrives at a point" just detects if you ARE on that coordinate.

In theory the "Appears in the" detects when you "enter" a certain area defined by the radius that you pass as a parameter. Despite this I also use the variable "miguel_in_the_house" as a condition to activate or not the subsequent devices.

The big problem is the battery consumption to have the GPS always on and sending my position every minute

    Hi Miguel,

For that purpose wouldn't it be better if you installed an actuator on your bike, and have the gate open when flashing the lights of your motorbike twice?

I have never tried it, but it's the recommended instalation for my alarm system, and I believe you can also do it with Z-Wave.

Nevertheless, have anyone been able to use the GPS location to send an alert? (example: when your children arrive at home, you receive an alert or e-mail)

    Thank you!

    Hi NightShadowPT,

the approach you recommend would be the easiest one and for sure the most reliable... to be honest I haven't looked for such an actuator (although already read about) but would need to be sure that not any flash light would open it

This approach was in fact more of an excuse to try the GPS capabilities and I've already identified some drawbacks like the battery excessive consumption by having GPS activated all time and sending location every minute :S otherwise I might have to wait several minutes for the gate to open what is not feasible.... will look for another alternative soon.

    miguel.araujo,

How precise is the location on your Localization Panel? I have tried every possibility to get this to register but I think the selection on a google map might be too specific. (34.234534 etc) based on the pin points the HC2 registers as my location at a specific time. Also the GPS feature tracks me in local Poland time which is 12 hours behind me so nothing registers until around midday on the specific day I am on. Does yours track you at the correct local time? i.e If you were to filter the time to the most recent GPS tracking to your phone does the timing stack up?

Yes, I have my location settings correct

I have tried to get this to call a complete scene, switch one device only and also try to make it simply increase a variable but it just doesn't register. The HC2 is definitely tracking me and I enter and exit the 100m radius several times a day while logged in to my app both locally and remotely with no luck.

I originally had a timer variable (Days of the week and interval) so that I could schedule my GPS tracking to track me every 1 minute when I needed this function and every 30 minutes every other time, but my issue with the tracking time made me remove this but still it wont work if there are no time constraints

The actuator I was talking about did not react to the lights, but to the electricity that passes through the circuit every time you flash your lights. I believe you won't have any problems with your neighbors with it

Ok, I have this sorted now... The GPS function doesn't appear to work alongside a timer as a rule, only if the GPS location is the only command before the "Then" command. I assume that this is something that can be improved to allow scheduling of GPS tracking frequency around times it is actually used.

The good news is that it actually works very well but requires the remote access login to be active at the time that the function is required. Which is strange considering the "Family" panel tracks the phone even if the remote access isn't activated.

Anyway, very happy that it works and it really is a useful tool, especially for arriving at, and leaving the office. I even use it to arm/disarm the alarm as I receive a notification confirming this action in any case. I simply arrive at the office and leave and the system completely opens, or shuts down my office and I get a notification to confirm... All I need to do is lock/unlock the door!

    That's real automation!

My GPS-Scene works! How frequently do you send your GPS-location to the Fibaro HC2? If i set it to 1 minute it drains my battery very fast!

I only need this scene to run 5 minutes after I arrive as I park directly under my office so I enter the GPS area long before I arrive at the front door. This scenes is perfect, I catch my blinds opening as get around the corner from the office and my TV is playing a promotional video after running through the various remote control commands to select the USB device and play the video just as I get in the door... Now to get that coffee machine connected!!!

I will eventually schedule my GPS tracking using the advanced selection in the Access Rights panel, I will schedule the system to track me every 5 minutes during the hours that I generally use this scene and 30 minutes every other time.. As it is based around a work schedule it's fairly easy to do with this scene... Running on random arrival times may be a little harder to do...

However, until the "Family" panel tracks me in my local time the schedule would have to account for the time differences I am currently experiencing in the data... And I can't be bothered

/emoticons/default_smile.png" alt=":)" srcset="https://forum.fibaro.com/uploads/emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> I have the benefit of charging my phone in the vehicle while this is being executed so the battery drain doesn't bother me.. You have to expect these things when you are asking it to do so much

I am trying to get a dynamic polling function into Fibaro. I transferred from Vera 3 to Fibaro HC2 and all is working great, except the following:

Within Vera with the help of iphone locator add in I created a scene. I press on my iphone a virtual button "coming home" and than the GPS location is determined and it starts polling my location as a function of the distance to my home. If I am more than 120 km away it polls every half an hour. When I get closer the polling rate increases up till finally once per minute. If I am in a range of 1 kilometer from my home it opens the gate and turns on the light when it is dark, at the same time the GPS location function is muted. This works excellent and doesn't drain my batteries too much. However I am not able to create dynamic polling inside the Fibaro. I am now turning my Vera into a slave of the Fibaro and that should work, but preferably I would have liked this function directly inside the Fibaro. Does anybody have some suggestions.

To save the battery of the phone and for the accuracy of the data, this app. must be available on the phone application. If I can write scenario on the application, phone can decide to send data whenever it's necessary and so there will be no need define time for communication.
