Remote Access - Future proof?

Question

Posted

Hi,

As I was fidling with my HC2 remote access, I saw that there is no option to use remote connection on my iPhone app without passing through home.fibaro.com.

This concerns me a bit, as the remote access functionality would cease to work if Fibaro went under.

Is there any other way to configure remote access?

Thank you.

Regards,

Hi,

yes, this is what I did:

- set up a strong password for your HC2, since it will be exposed on the internet

- set up a static IP for your HC2

- register with a free DynamicDNS service (having a Dlink router, the easiest is www.dlinkddns.com or else you can register at dyn.com where you need to subscribe to a free 14-days trial and cancel it immediately after to keep your free subscription)

- set up your internet router to keep DynDNS updated for the name you will choose (something like myhouse.dlinkddns.com)

- set up your internet router to forward a random outside port (i.e. 476) to inside port 80 of your HC2 static IP. I suggest NOT to use outside port 80 since it's way more easy that someone will try to attack you

This way you will be able to connect to something like

and get the console of your HC2 from any web browser.

Hope it helps!

I guess the alternative would be a monthly fee to keep the servers running like other products charge...

You can connect via a static IP but again this is generally attached to you ISP and also comes an ongoing cost.. I'm pretty sure it would also impact GPS features as your system would potentially assume you are at home every time you logged in

I realized some time ago, some malfunctions with direct connection to the console. I thought a bug, here is the response a Fibaro developer:

cross domain not work because of ajax
