All,

I know the Fibaro dimmer works best with monostable switches and as such I am replacing my bistable light switch modules with monostable ones. It has just occurred to me though that to get the desired functionality, the switch modules would have to be 1-way not 2-way...

Is this correct?

My thinking is this...a one-way monostable switch only 'closes' the circuit when the button is pressed, when the switch is released, the spring automatically opens the circuit stopping current flowing. That way, current only flows when the button is actually being pressed. I am assuming that the Fibaro dimmer then takes these short bursts of current and interprets them to either turn the light on/off and if it is a long press to lower or raise the light level.

However, I imagine a 2-way monostable switch works in an identical manner to a 2-way bistable switch in that pressing the button will flick the circuit from between L1 and L2. In this instance, current flows either continually or not at all (depending on the selection of L1 or L2) regardless of whether then finger is still pressing the switch and therefore would not result in the necessary input for the Fibaro dimmer to be able to dim up and down (it would just provide on and off functionality).

Does that make sense? and if so, am I correct?

Monostable switches become control switches to the dimmer module so you are correct. The switches will only keep the lights on if the switches are held until you have the dimmer modules in place.

With a 2 way, the dimmer handles this for you and the second switch is connected to the extra switch terminal. The dimmer carries and handles the load and the switches are simply control switches. The "Stair Switch" parameter must be turned on for the second switch to be recognised. (If you are using monostable switches throughout you can also wire all the switches in parallel if you want to use the relays for 2 way switching but you must have monostable switches)

If you do it this way you don't need to select "Stair switch"

Did you manage to get mono stable swtches for this dimmer? I'm having difficult finding the appropriate monostablbe rocker (w spring) that works with the fibromyalgia dimmer. They really don't seem to be very common here in the uk.

Hello,

I have tried to install a dimmer into a stair switch setup (2 switches) but have been unable to do so.

Everything seemed to work fine with the switch controled by fibaro dimmer, but the other switch had a strange behaviour:

- When turning on, lights would go to the mininum (as a result, no light was displayed)

. If this second switch was off, I could not operate the original switch

I must be missing something.

Thank you

Can you draw a little schematic how did you installed wires? I have 2 switches and 1 dimmer module - everything works fine. (At the moment i'm using bistable switches, but this shouldn't be a problem)
