requestNodeNeighborUpdate action

robmac

Question

Does anyone know what requestNodeNeighborUpdate action does?

Sounds like it might request a device to update the routing.

Has anyone tried the command from a script? It could be a way to tidy up the mesh after moving nodes or HC2 around or it could make a nice mess.

  • Hi,

    Thanks for the response.

Have you actually tested or is there some fibaro documentation to confirm that it is implemented?

I have a couple of nodes I need to move. I think fibaro does manage to heal the mesh given time and enough traffic and does a good job. It would be good to be able to send null commands to help speed this light optimisation but I am sure that will come.

If this command does a full rebuild it could actually do a good job in most situations at removing nodes that have failed or moved from adjacent nodes. It could also re-introduce poor routes that have been tuned out by the base optimisation. So not necessarily a quick fix.

I am going to risk using but only if moving the nodes causes issues. I am not expecting immediate fix. It may still need a few days to settle.

I will report how I get on if nobody else can confirm they have used and how they got on.

  • Update:

So I risked moving the nodes and as expected the network became unstable. All the normal dead nodes and erratic control. No surprise...that is z-wave behaviour, the mesh relies on nodes not moving and no new walls or big metal objects getting in the way.

So I knocked together some LUA and ran from a scene for the nodes. Fibaro advised this was only needed for non Fibaro devices as the Fibaro devices have built in repair. I know some of my devices don't and as the mesh is the sum of the parts it had to be worth a try.

On the home page I could see the nodes being instructed to rediscover so I believe it made the call.

No immediate improvement but this morning all nice again so I think it helped but it may have fixed itself given time anyway. Who can say.

If you are at your wits end you may want to try this but it is in a beta so don't expect it to make it better. I may have been lucky or it may have done nothing to help but it could have made a nasty mess.

will rebuild mesh for all devices

  • thanks so will

rebuild a selected set putting device ids in the array or does it work on z-wave node ids?

    and

    will

    rebuild the complete mesh

How does it cope with sleeping nodes? Do you have to wake them or will it just wait for them?
