Hi

This feels like rather a newbie question, but I can't work it out:

I have a Door/Window sensor that works fine - arm/breach/safe etc.

I have attached a momentary (doorbell) switch to the sensor, but I can't see how to set the HC to recognise the bell push.

I have tried making changes to the parameters of the door sensor, but then it stops working.

Please can anyone tell me:

a) should the binary switch show up in the HC as a separate device (like the temperature sensor does)?

b) If everything is configured within the door sensor parameters, what should I adjust, to keep the door sensor working, but have the push button have an effect?

c) Have I read this wrongly? Is it door sensor or switch rather than both?

Or any other ideas?

BTW, I have tried deleting and re-adding the door sensor, and resetting it - no difference that I could see

Thanks for any help you can give.[/i]

Hi,

The binary switch is actually wired in parallel to the reed sensor (magnetic switch), they can work independently but closing the switch or placing the magnet close to the sensor will over-ride the other.

So you cannot detect the door opening AND the door bell ringing at the same time.

For this reason they share the same icon in the Z-Wave controllers including HC2.

I think this is still correct in the latest release of HC2 firmware.

Thanks for sorting me out on that, but I still can't get any response when I push the doorbell button. How do I tell if HC is receiving a signal from the button and how can I use it?

Hi, I need to test this tomorrow.

But I think the magnet needs to be away from the sensors for the binary switch to work.

Have you been testing it with the magnet within 5mm of the main sensor? If so move it away and check if it now works.

Yes, you're right. If I move the magnet away, the push button 'closes the door'. That does seem to mean that the sensor can't act as a door opening sensor and still allow you to use the button to activate (e.g.) a scene. That's a pity.

Though if I set it to scene activation (param 14) and momentary switch setting (param 3), I can use ID12 and ID13 ('push/hold' and 'release') for the door opening, firing off one scene, and the button push double click etc. for another scene.

    Excellent.

That's a good point. That should work nicely and means the device can be used for the combined function of alarm and doorbell.

Of course, the double and triple clicks only work if the door is open at the time...

What's the voice range wake up on the sensor ports (FGK 107)???

    Thanks
