Now just wait for an API to talk to and integrate into a virtual device

Hi guys,

you can get the virtual device for the iKettle on the Fibaro UK website.

Go to

Please login or register to see this link.

and click on the one about integrating the iKettle with Sonos.

Feedback (good and bad) is welcome.

Happy automating!

I have one and has it controlled over wifi from my integrating server (not the HC2) it is quite good fun and I've actually got a part of my home automation setup that my girlfriend really loves, as she can fire up the kettle when she goes off work, and by the time she returns home, it will have boiling water ready.

If anyone is interested, I will post the necessary commands to control it, and how to intercept the responses from it?

Dalle, that'd be great if you could share any info about it. I'm on HCL and need a smart way to control the ikettle. Thanks!

The commands are all send as TCP packages, so I'm not sure how that will go down with the HCL, but I'll post what I've got in a few days when I've got access to my server.

A great guy from Fibaro.co.uk amended the virtual device he wrote for HC2 to now work for HCL as well. Gotta give it a try. (once I receive my iKettle...)

Thank you Adam!

Okay, that is great. I checked out the VD that Adam Bewsher provided and it is a pretty nice piece of work, so no need to fiddle around with the commands then. I'm not using the HC to control it, so I'll only be able to provide the raw codes to be sent. So unless someone need it for something other than VD-integration, I won't fill up the thread with hex codes

Well... Unlike a normal kettle, you could set this up to auto off if certain conditions are fulfilled... I.e. I have a mode which is only activated when me or my girlfriend gets up in the morning. If we had kids, we could set this up so that it will auto off again in case the mode is not activated yet... A normal "dumb" kettle will turn on happily if the kids play with it.

Or you could just keep your kettle empty. Then it will also power off automatically. So To be honest, I think this is a bit of an animated discussion. Yes, if you are careless, people can get hurt but this kettle is as safe as any other in my view. Actually safer. If the away mode is activated in our house, the kettle will automatically power off to ensure it doesn't overheat and burn down the house if the over heat protection fails... A normal kettle won't do that.

I have just noticed that the iKettle app on iPhone has been re-branded to Smarter and that a wificoffee is soon to be released.

You're welcome!

Thanks for your interests in this virtual device everyone!

Yes, just in case you went to the page before the update, the iKettle Virtual device now works on the HCL too - but without the feedback. It also has keep warm functionality.

A little correction to the website address it is FibaroUK.co.uk

The support section has tutorials like this one and the Lua section has full documentation of the fibaro: functions. ... and more on the way.

Happy automating!
