i have a question about hc2, is there a change that fibaro is going to support other hardware?

like rfxcom, and then the network version so no problems with crappy usb drivers.

or plugwise? not the stick version, because you need the source software to run, but the stretch is a standalone that doesn't need source

Please login or register to see this link.

there are people that created plugins for homeseer, so a hc2 "plugin" shouldn't be a problem either?

i think supporting more hardware is better for everyone, i know people that does not want to use/buy a hc2 because they use rfxcom and/or plugwise

or else an idea for a hc3 perhaps?

I would like to say it is better to wait before they do that. I prefer have a very complete and stable z-wave system before look at other hardware.

Plenty of proprietary systems available. Z-wave strength is supposed to be that it is a standard supported by all z-wave vendors, so you get compatible products. If z-wave is to prevail over time this is key to success.

I have that experience with Zipabox. Supposed to support all kinds of devices, but in the end the basic functionality never really worked stabile. Starting with all kinds of new (pay) features while never getting the basics right. That's not why people buy into Fibaro.

If only fibaro opened up the box a bit (access to usb-ports). The communty would surely develop support for other hardware. Fibaro can continue developing support for z-wave devices.

The closeness of the HC2 IS a problem!

But why would you choose Fibaro then? If you want an open system there is always Vera or Zipato, they provide all the access you may ever need. For some of us the strategy of Fibaro to develop most modules themselves and try to get them to be supported as reliable as possible is the most important reason to choose HC2.

But I think there is a way around this, by using http-commands in HC2 and a separate controller. You'll have to use the search for this.

Hek, like say HVB83 you got 2 options:

- Use example a raspberry where you can use usb port

- Change for vera ou zipato or anyelse because you didn't uderstand fibaro.

Fibaro is not like tha zipabox, vera or eedomaus. They build device and box, The objectif at the end is to made all device for house and have a complete system.

Maybe I don't undertand Fibaro, true. They release great, innovative products. But you can't be serious if you believe that Fibaro [ever] will have support for all types of devices that is needed for a fully automated house?

Polling stuff via http requests from external web servers is often not good enough. The HC2 seems to have a quite good processor. Why not make use of it? And the power of the community to create wonderful things? I would prefer not to have multiple systems running just to control my HA.

I'm currently running Vera and I have created a plugin and library for building cheap wireless sensors based on Arduino. Was looking into the possibility of sharing this with the Fibaro user base. But with the limited integration possibilities it's impossible. And I'm almost feeling a fanboy-storm rising when openness is discussed .. why?

Why not ? They are still making new devices...

Maybe they will not support all of the other devices but is that neccessary ?

Smokesensor, motionsensor will be available soon and it won't stop there.

What else do you need ?

Some examples:

Integration with AV systems, alarm systems, IR sender/receivers, RFID readers, locks, gas detector, water measure and shut off vault, ITTT, custom logging and alerts,...

For some of these [sensors/actuator] there exists z-wave devices from other vendors. But my point is that there will always be devices/integrations that Fibaro won't see a commercial value in supporting. This is where opening up the box would help... the community would probably make some if these integrations. For free.

And you can use many with the rgbw device. This one can work with many analogic device.

I think you don't know all things you can do with fibaro systems.

At this moment the only request I can have with fibaro is control Air conditionning.

Except that I am happy with the actual system.
